My GF wants to start supplementing her protein with shakes during the day. What are you ladies using? Is a soy based shake the best? thanks

i like muscle milk a lot... evopro is good too.. depends on if bulking or cutting because you may want diff carb/fat content

what you use is fine for her too.

I wouldnt go with a soy protein. stick to whey. whey isolate is the easiest absorbed.
my favorite is Sportlabs whey protein powder in chocolate. MMmm mix in some natural peanut butter and it rocks!

I would choose whey isolate over soy protein as well.
There are so many yummy flavors out there too! :)

I had put this together awhile ago, but don't think it made it to this board.. so here ya go :)

Protein Breakdowns:

There are several sources of protein powders on the market that it gets hard to choose.. I personally use whey as i have weighed the pros and cons, but imo, milk casein protein tastes better... anyway, below are protein options and explanations to help make decisions and clear up ambiguity amongst proteins....

(taken from Muscular Development by Richard B Kreider PhD)

1) SOY PROTEIN: Soy is recoginzed as the highest quality source of vegetable protein. It contains a high concentration of essential amino acids, is low in fat and contains phytoestrogen isoflavones believed to have a number of health benefits. Soy isoflavones also possess estrogenic effects that theoretically serve to negate anabolic responses to training.

2) MILK PROTEIN: Comprised of casein (about 80%) and whey (about 20%). Casein and whey differ in the composition of amino acids, digestibility rate, and availability of various protein subtypes.

3) WHEY PROTEIN: Generally has greater concentration of essential amino acids in comparison to various caseinates and is therefore considered a higher quality protein than casein. Research has suggested that whey protein may increase protein synthesis, enhance immunity and possess greater anticarcinogenic properties in comparison to other forms of protein. For this reason, whey is considered by many as the best source of protein for dietary supplements.

as i read the article it further went to discuss that soy may actually have potential negative health effects on long-term consumption of diets high in soy protein.
whereas whey protein may improve cognitive function in STRESS vulnerable subjects and may also possess a number of potential health benefits.

this was the best part i found out about whey... "It is also possible that consuming whey protein prior to going to sleep may help athletes relax and experience a more restful sleep"

so i do hope some of this info helps you decide on the correct protein source for your needs.

luv super

Stay away from soy! Recent studies have shown, that soy contains high levels of toxic metals. All of which have been shown to be highly carcinogenic.

I use the Syntrax Nectar Protein and love the taste. I use 2 scoops of the fuzzy navel powder in water and it tastes great.

I havent tried that flav yet..does it taste anything like fuzzy peaches the candy? :p

Ive never heard of a candy called fuzzy peaches but I think it tastes like weak orange juice. I tend to taste more orange in it than peach but its really good. I did try to other flavors, cherry berry and apple. I didnt really care for either of those.

hmm you've never heard of FUZZY PEACHES ??? gosh, I used to love those. haha
hmm I dont care for any orange flavoured protein...
