blood pressure meds and you

bitterdregs

in the last few years my bp crept high. not terrible, but consistenly 140ish/90ish enough, spikes when I was stressed, that I started meds.

Started with atenolol and had issues with postural hypotension- when you get up and get light headed. Switched to bysolic, and had no problems until I wantesd to get on track with cardio. Bystolic suppresses pulse as part of it's mechanism. I cuold hammer away on the spin bike until I dropped over and my pulse never exceeded 128. It was nuts, and my gp said that was normal- cept I never felt like I was doing anything.

Just switched to losartan, and bp is back up. And it's more like 150/100, proly due to the added test in my system. So this med is a bust.

Anyone have a recommendation on a med that doesn't have many side effects and doesn't jack with your pulse? I've made an appt with a cardiologist bc I think my gp is just choosing drugs he reads about. I'm wondering if a specialist, when I describe the symptoms and sides, can dial that in.

...and before I get the flame about diet and herbals, my sodium is in check (in fact some have speculated not enough electrolytes with the cramps I had), and the weight is coming off with the help of IMT and improved test levels. But I don't need any surprise bp-related issues. you know, like a stroke.

would appreciate some input on your experience with bp meds. thanks

Try benazepril....(there is also a version that has a mild diuretic) You doctor will have to figure out the right dose though...anywhere from 20mg a day to 80mg......It has worked for me for years....no sides whatsoever.....

I take amlodipine besylate 10mg and telmisartan hct 80/25. When I'm on cycle my bp is spot on or even a tad low!

accupril is pretty mild. its an ACE inhibitor. i used it with no problems while on test. i also used cozaar before. it was also mild but good..... start tapering off slowly as you approach the end of the cycle. my BP is only high on cycle, so i slowly down my dose over the course of 1 month. if u stop suddenly you will get rebound hypertension and your bp WILL shoot up higher than it was before you took the meds. thats when shit can happen.

thanks guys, got a couple suggestions to run by the cardio. I'm sure he'll want a stress test to tell me I'm too fat.... no shit, that's what I'm tryin to fix and have to be careful bc of the bp!

looks like benecar- it's 20mg with 12.5of a mild diuretic. let's hope this works better so my pulse can actually get up to a useful range!

Yep I went to Dr. She put me on Lysinopral take a pill every night before bed been doing it for 3 years
