Blood test result...what do you think?

Hi fellas,

I had some blood work done over the last couple of months and was interest in some opinions. I went to see my doctor with symptoms of fatigue, acne, hair loss on my lower legs and weight gain. I have always worked out, a lot of body building in my youth and circuit training lately. I had a low back injury that put me on the sidelines for about five months. I recovered enough to start working out again, but I just felt like crap, hence the doctor visit and blood work. 43 yrs/old, 6ft, 225lbs, No history of anabolic use. Here are the results:

Dec 2013
TT 232 ng/dL (241-827)

Started circuit training 4-5 days per week.

Jan 2014
TT 315 ng/dL (241-827)

Still training, still feel like crap.

Feb 2014

TT 384 ng/dL (241-827)
Thyroxine 6.7 mcg/dL (4.7-13.3)
FSH 2.6 mIU/mL (.7-10.8)
LH 2.3 mIU/mL (1.2-10-6)
TSH (3rd gen) 1.670 uIU/mL (.358-3.740)
Cortisol, am 15.00 ug/dL (4.30-22.40)
SHBG 27 nmol/L (10-50)

Feb 2014 (one week later)

TT 440 ng/dL (250-1100)
Free T 73.6 pg/mL (46.0-224.0)
Bio T 170.5 ng/dL (110.0-575.0)
SHBG 23 nmol/L (10-50)
Albumin (quest) 5.1 g/dL (3.6-5.1)
Prolactin 9.3 ng/dL (2.0-18.0)
DHT 20 (16-79)
Estradiol, ultra 38 (<29) I got these last two results over the phone and didn't get units, but I did get the range.

Also had CBC done and metabolic panel. All within spec.
HCT 46.1%

I started feeling a little better at the beginning of Feb, but I have started feeling worse lately. I have had good results regaining cardio fitness and some strength, but I should be 20lbs lighter by now and I have actually gained weight, some muscle, but my belt size tells the real story. These results are very atypical for me. I'm going for more blood work to see what has been happening. I have been doing a ton of research, but there is no substitute for experience. I hope you can help.

Thanks

My TT didn't get above 380 or so before I got on TRT.

But, otherwise my numbers were pretty close to yours. However, I was already lifting weights and stuff. My TT was not budging at all for nothing.

However, it looks like your TT is climbing with more exercise...so, i'm going to say it is a personal preference at this point.

I would talk to an endo about doing an HPTA restart if I we're you. That might help get your TT back to normal levels for your age.

Is there a sticky available on how to read blood work/ what to look for? I couldn't find one. I would just like to know for when I get my own done because this all seems so cryptic to me.

Sorry bro, not trying to hi-jack your thread.

I asked my doctor for an endo referral. The endo was sent my lab results and said everything was fine and refused to see me. I've decided to get self-educated on the subject and maybe run across a few knowledgeable doctors along the way.

I'm interested to see if the climb in TT is only temporary or if it will fall again. I went from 232 to 440 in two months. Seem normal to you guys? I have worked out my entire life, so the lay-off may have seemed like a shock to my body? My e2 is also elevated at 39. Not terrible, but the ratio seems way off compared with TT.

Are you always getting your blood work done first thing in the morning and after a good night's sleep?

Yes, always getting 8am TT and good sleep. I like to be very consistent with tests and avoid making more than one adjustment at a time to avoid misinterpretation. I don't like that I was hypogonadic in Dec, but was able to bring the numbers up with training. If I was at normal levels to begin with, that boost in TT due to training would have been really nice. Now it just gets my number looking better, but the symptoms are still present.

Your test is on the low end of the spectrum. Since you have no history of AAS use, as another member said , you should start with your endo. I don't know what your feelings about trt are, but as you get older as you know t levels decrease. We are close in age and I know alot of guys who have trained natural and have ran some cycles, and a lot of brothers prefer to have a higher testosterone level than your tests show for a lot of good reasons. Yours still falls within a normal range though.

I have been on trt for 7 years and have been reading about clomid being used effectively to boost test levels. The doses are low. What I have been reading it is being dosed at 25 mg every 3 days. This seems to be enough to work and you don't have to go the testosterone route. After stopping the clomis therapy levels drop off again, but as I said, it is being used effectively at low doses for extended periods of time.

Research it on line friend. It may be for you.

I am getting tested again this week to see how things have been going. I still feel weak and tired, but not near as bad as before. I have been looking at the E blockers as a possible solution as my Estradiol is coming back high. Thanks for the input.
