Oiiiiiii.
First:
With an LH/FSH like that, you *might* be able to restart with clomid therapy, but at your age - I can only see it being a temporary fix honestly. Granted, I'm not a doctor - but I've seen quite a few guys our age restart, only to have their numbers plunge again regardless of pituitary output. This pretty much sounds like what your doctor considered and why he opted to just go for the testosterone replacement instead. (That or he isn't aware of clomid therapy.)
I think it comes down to how you want to attack this. I would for sure put some sperm away in the bank as you never know if you'll remain fertile, and that would be a terrible thing to have that option taken from you. Sperm are resilient little tadpoles, but I'm not so sure that's a gamble you'd want to take given the fact you don't have children yet. I definitely agree that gel probably isn't the answer here and as your girl is a nurse, will only help you in your case as it seems your doc has quite the open mind. If you decide that you're just going to take the plunge, I'd give the gel a try for a little while and see how things go for you. This does two things: 1. It shows your doctor that you're willing to put trust in his judgement, and 2. It lets you know for sure if you need to go the injectable route or not.
Either way, I am dumbfounded that you need a total test of 115.368ng/dL to qualify, as that is even lower than I was - and I felt like living death! You're actually not far from my original total test value of 120ng/dL, so I'm surprised that you haven't been experiencing more of the negative sides from low test. Then again, I had no clue I had low test either as my docs kept just shoveling anti-depressants/benzos/other meds at me instead to mask the source of my woes. You're pretty close, but I'd take that blood test (on top of everything else he suggested to you) later in the day as well. That should help drive it down that extra 20 points, so you can fit in under that silly value they require.
Definitely keep us updated!
