Can Lifting Cause Height Growth?

Alright, I hadn't grown heightwise in a years, I was 6 1" in 8th grade, and that height until I graduated from high school. The summer after I graduated is when I got serious about training, and started deadlifting and squatting. Since then I've grown 2 inches. I'm 19 right now, and everyone had told me I was done growing. Could the growth hormone release from deadlifting and squatting have made me grow taller?

Lifting doesn't stunt growth, but on the same token, neither does it make you grow. The GH release from lifting would, IMO, not be significant enough to start you growing taller again (if it did, ronnie, gunter, lee, all of those guys would be 10 feet tall between the natty and synthetic GH they've got). If you're only 19 (like me) you are probably still growing naturally; men usually don't stop growing heightwise until almost 21.

Heh, never thought of that. Good point.

That probably got started from people who juiced early, I knew a couple in high school.

Some people grow into thier early 20s, I finished around 18 when most people seemed to stop around 16/17.

Steroid use or weight training has no effects on your growth plates. That's all to do with your parents.

With steroid use, it is possible to prematurely close growth plates; not likely, but it is possible. All depends on how genetically predispositioned you are to respond in certain ways.

i wish it could help you grow, i'm only 5' 4". but i'm still young so hopefully i get taller. lifting doesn't stunt or help your growth though like stated before.

paladin - it's better to err on the side of caution if you're hoping that you'll still gain some inches.

personally, i was 5'10 from 16 years old until i was 22. over the last year (23 now), i've grown almost a full inch.

wait as long as you can until you do steroids, man. besides, at your age you have enough testosterone coursing through your veins that you can make some wicked gains without drugs.
