If you're looking to take something to help with your overall cardiovascular system and heart, spinach and lots of greens with phytonutrients are a very good start. If you visit your local specialty nutrition store, they may be able to recommend some other good products to help "supplement" your diet. Supplements are just that... a supplement, not a solution.
Lecithin is a supplement commonly recommended to help promote healthy arteries. If you google it, you will find a lot more information on it than I can provide here but that is one that might be worth some further personal research. I did a quick search and pulled up this info to provide some information on it's benefits:
"One way lecithin aids in preventing or reversing certain diseases and conditions is that since it is predominately comprised of fat itself, it adheres to our cell and nerve linings, forming a sheath, and prevents cholesterol and other fats from sticking. By doing this, in the case of patients with high cholesterol, it decreases the body's ability to absorb cholesterol across the intestinal wall, thus lowering total cholesterol, including LDL (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol). With the reduction of blood cholesterol, research has also shown to reverse atherosclerosis, which is the hardening of the arteries. Though there are pharmaceutical products on the market that control and aid in the control of these diseases, lecithin, is capable of doing this in a much more natural way and at a much cheaper price."
If you need strong prescription drugs for a very real medical condition, please seek the advice of a medical professional and talk to your doctor.
If a major artery becomes mostly or completely blocked, you better hope you're near a phone and there is someone to call 911 for you because you'll probably be unconscious and dead. If the artery is going to your heart, it's called a heart attack, if it's to your brain, it's called a stroke.
If an an artery to the heart becomes partially blocked and someone is having a heart attack, in my city, we load them in the ambulance ASAP and call the hospital to let them know we're bringing someone in. While we are en route, they will start preparing for immediate angioplasty to insert a stent into the artery. There is a special elevator at back of the hospital which goes from the ground right to the operating room. This is saving lives every day.
