Christian Thibaudeau: 5x5 Routine?!

I read an article on the web stating that Strength and conditioning coach, Christian Thibaudeau, designed this routine. Although, his version differs in several ways. He uses a superset technique, allowing a superset of a compound movement such as barbell bench press and a concentration movement such as dumbell flyes performed with no rest in between to count as ONE set, performing 5 sets, adding resistance each set.

The above link will take you to the article I am referirng to.

Could someone critique this version of the 5x5 routine as compared to Needsize's? This guy incorporates no higher rep sets.

I know this has to peak many people's interest hear after reading so many responses to Needsize's 5x5 thread. Let's hear it brother's and sistas.

There are many variations of excersise..out there, I never heard of the 5x5 until Needsize posted it on here and Elite.I have found great strenght gains using it on core excersises...Rows Bench....presses etc

couldent agree more. need size's technique's are killing my platues (naturally)... i wouldent even think of reading that one u posted. why change? if its still working me i see no need to dabble in anything else. and i get turned off at the idea of a superset as a planned movement.sounds like cardio to me, or something u would see on body shaping. i might do them as a compulsion excercise. meaning i feel the need to do them for some strange reason. i like my sticky 5x5.

this is not a flame

PLease don't get me wrong. I personally agree that Needsize's version sounds rock solid. In fact, I am planning on starting it in a few weeks. After reading the "other" article, I was just curious to know the different variations and techniques. I agree that the superset might just be an exhaustive measure, yielding little, if any, desirable benefits. After reading everyone's positive feedback and testimonials reagrding Needsize's version, I never doublted it's effectiveness or Needsize's credibility. If I gave any other impression, please accept my apologies.

my training partner followed this routine when he was dieting, as that what Christian did when he made his huge transformation. He enjoyed the routine, but said it wasnt the same when it came to strength building. As for building mass, who knows, its a solid routine though and this guy really knows his stuff

Needsize!

Personally, I think the version you posted is more logical for overall mass as well as strength gains. There are so many "opinions" regarding training frequency, volume, and intensity that we tend to stay confused and uncertain in the whole scheme of things. What might work well for one person might not yield any results for another, but there are some basic fundamentals that hold true in all scenarios such as progressive overload and muscle adaptation. I will be following your version of the 5x5 starting in two weeks, and I will be posting my results on a bi-monthly basis for eveyone to see. I'm sure they will be awesome. Thanks for your willingness to share your knowledge with others.

I used this program for about 6 weeks while I was coming off my last cycle. Didn't lose shit - this program is really appropriate for post-cycle IMO.
