cutting fat and losing muscle

So I broke my shoulder last July and was out from most activity for the better part of the rest of the year. I put on a lot of bad weight during this time and in December I finally got my ass back to it. I really want to lean out before I tried any bulking or cycles and so far I have dumped about 25lbs but along with that I have lost a lot of muscle mass too. Should I just keep at it till I get down to a good body fat % and then start hammering the calories? just trying to lose fat and build muscle at the same time is nucking futz. I am at the gym 7 days a week, lifting one day and cardio the next

I also had surgery on my shoulder last year. Its generally a good idea to get lean but keep in mind, the less you weigh, the less calories you need and it becomes harder and harder to lose fat. This is why bodybuilding really is the only way to get lean and stay lean.
I would say about 10% BF is as good as it gets. Once you're there, kick in some gear and slowly lift more weights.
Don't "hammer" in calories though, you'll only get fat. Just keep adding an extra 100 calories per day each week, so you add muscle and calories at the same pace. This way you wont build up any fat.

Few tips for the shoulder, go swimming! It worked great for me, improved flexibility of my joint and its a great way to burn fat. And start out doing light weights and high reps.

Good luck.

I swim once a week and that is how I rehabbed it. I race bikes and that is how I broke it. I started off with push ups and cardio 5 months ago but have been lifting heavier the last month and 1/2. Thanks for the calorie tip that makes sense.

The more muscle you build the more calories you burn at rest.

The more cardio you do the more muscle you burn off.

nough said.
