Deadlift - 2 part question

First off, is it ok to do only one set of deadlifts? I'm training for size.

Including tonights back workout, the past 3 weeks I have hit PR's on deads. The past 2 workouts I hit a weight that I thought I could get 5 and got it. Then I upped the weight 10 more lbs and still got it. So I guess the past 2 workouts I did 2 sets. But tonight I hit a PR again for 5 reps so I stopped after the first set. (I do one warmup set of 225 and then another warmup of 315)

My second question: when I do deads, I look forward, neck slightly tilted back. After my set, my neck really hurts. I think it is said you're supposed to look up (head tilted back) but I think thats whats hurting my neck b/c when you look up (head tilted back) your neck is kinda scrunched up. Would it be better to tilt my head slightly down b/c this straightens out the neck? I just don't want to injure myself. And my neck hurts the way I'm doing it so I must not be doing it right.

Post a clip.

Try to do a few sets, preferably 5x5 w/ a warmup set.

Also, ALWAYS look up to straighten your back. You don't want to hunch over too much when you DL or else you might injure yourself. I always try to look at the crease between the wall and the celing. Yeah, your neck might be sore, but hey, it's better having a sore neck than a dislocated back, right? :)

5x5 is not a good way to train deads.

I agree. If you're going all out on deads, you shouldn't be able to do 5 sets.

PB whats your opinion on my original post? You're deadlift king! :)

my last dead workout i worked up a single @ 711#. i been doing singles on deads for about 3 months now and its working. i may do 1-6 singles depends on how cloase i am to a meet.

i look up, or try too. looking up makes staying behind the bar easier.

and i am far from the dead lift king. =0l

i am not a 5x5 fan at all for any lift. my last squat session was 727# for 3 singles. my last heavy bench was i worked up to 555# for a single.

now on my assistance work i may do sets of 10-20reps or more at times. but normally in the 1-3 set range.

yall should read my journal or some of the other ones posted in the journal section for training tips. theres some great stuff in there.
