Do you find training shoulders helps chest strength?

Dlove

Product of Test
Im talking about training the Delts not the traps. It seems like the weeks I train shoulders my chest exercises dont get stronger. You would think the opposite I quess. Just curious about others experience with this. I love training traps, then again it's my strong point and my delts are weak as piss. My chest is pretty weak too. All my other BP's are fairly strong some tips on increasing chest and shoulder strength would be great. Personally I feel the shoulders get worked enough in all upper body exercises so why work them. But feedback would be great. Thanx

well, increasing the strength of the delts would directly help with increasing your bench press, as the bench press movement itself is more than just chest, you use your anterior deltoid among other muscles. however, increasing your deltoid strength may lead to an indirect increase strength increase in the chest via allowing you to lift more weight in pressing movements.

I also think it does improve your strength in chest on the long run.

The lack of increase in weeks you train shoulders might have several underlying factors;
1). You say you do not train delts often and that they are weak
2). Depending on when you train your Delts in your weekly roster might have a negative impact on chest exercises. Also because you do utilize your triceps in bioth exercises...and I assume you also train triceps seperately?
3) Form

What I mean to say is that since you do not train them very often the times you do train them may "exaust" your delts so that you may not be able to utilize them as needed during BP.

Is your form with chest exercises correct?
I find that if I do not keep to form during BP I carry the weight more on shoulders than on chest.

I also see a lot of people bouncing the weights up and down and thus actually using the motion to lift the weights than their muscles.

Personally I love shoulders...I train them on Chest days after chest. In the last month I use this schedule I have increased weight with every new trainingday for both groups.

I do not want to diss you or anything...but if you say your delts are weak doens't that imply that you do not train them enough of correctly enough?

What do you mean by chest strentgh? :D

If your talking about compound pressing moves then yes any muscle in that link will help. But then again every chestpress done correctly uses very litle shoulders.

Well I cant say I dont train them. Lately I have been and my pressing strength has not been so great. I dont know if guys remeber this guy on here Pullinbig (heavy hitter), Mikea, Grafix you probably do he was from a little ways back. I followed his routine for mass and strength for a while and it did not include shoulders because he said it's overkill and they get worked in all upper body exercises anyway. Well he was right. Well it worked for me at least. I was at my strongest only lifting heavy 3days a week with no shoulders.

However, now I think about it TPH a little shoulder work after chest exercises was alright for me, i still got stronger. Im thinking I just cant dedicate a day to shoulders maybe just some machine press and lateral raises might work after chest. I do like seeing my striations in the front and side delts. Crazy shit is when I had the best striations I wasn't doing shoulder work it was when I was following PB's routine. I dunno pretty baffled by this.

Bumpin this. Damn 327 viewing the anabolic forum and 24 in the diet forum, 26 viewing the training forum, lol. It all starts in the kitchen and the gym, anybody can follow a cycle c mon now, lol.

Anyone else not work shoulders or barely at all and notice increase in bench strength?

I do some delt work but its not a lot of volume. You are already hitting them with pushing/pulling, so thanks to Pullinbigs advice I dropped volume and that seems to work fine for me. I like freeweight front presses (barbell) and some side laterals, I might do some rears for kicks as well but its a pretty basic and low volume routine. I do some very light rotator movements after benching with 2.5/5lb weights.

Thats how I feel too. I feel the same way the shoulders get hit in all upperbody exercises, so it does seem like overkill working them hard week in and week out. Crazy but I do seem to grow better not working them. If anything working them just seems to kill my strength in my chest workout. Im gonna just stick to a few laterall raises on chest day and maybe little machine press here and there. I think pullinbigs routine doesn't incorporate any shoulder work except upright rows which really just help with traps more is this right? Also maybe im overlooking it but can you copy the link to his routine for me Mudge. I remember most of it but think im missing somethings. Thanx bro
