Do you think one of them is using gear pt. 2

ROFL!

Have you ever tried it?
I never used it for bench until I went for a 1rm with it on and fell in love after that.
It's just for my "heavy" work even on bench.
The rest of the time it's a fashion statement.

I bet you don't chalk your shirt either :p
I've tried it in the past, but felt it was making my core weaker as I would flex into the belt, which seems like it could become a crutch. I have absolutely no beef with belts being worn for squats/deadlifts/cleans/Snatch, Clean and Jerks/HEAVY lunges/etc, but it just seems silly on a bench, that's all. :)

If I was allowed to have chalk, you can bet your ass it'd be all over me. I just have callouses the size of barn doors instead to grip onto that bar. :D

Cruising Craigslist to see if I can pick up a cheap weight set for the house.

40lb Olympic bar for sale - Sure, 40lbs? That's not an Oly bar and the quality is questionable.

Chrome bars - Get the fuck out of here with that Dicks sporting goods shit.

Standard bars being sold as Olympic - Just no.

Rube Goldberg contraptions that take up the entire basement - WTF?

People that actually know what they've got - $$$
Honestly, unless you're going to spend THOUSANDS of dolllars on a GOOD set, just stick to a cheap gym membership. I've wasted so much money on weight sets only to outgrow them or find a lack of space when I move. It'd be FANTASTIC to have a squat rack/bench/oly set/db set, but that's so much money - it just doesn't seem practical to me.

That's kinda what we do too.
I've been asked more than once if all the guys with Captain Planet logos are the same person haha.

The belt helps me personally on bench a little differently.
Because I have bulged discs in my lumbar spine, it prevents me from over-arching and hurting myself more than I want to.

What sort of poverty gym doesn't allow chalk?
I honestly gotta say I do love my gym. They allow anything really as long as you're not literally throwing weights.
They even have some (small) chains for that sort of work.

That's the conclusion that I'm coming to also, the $ is crazy. Even used, $.5/lb is a decent weight. I'd be in it for several hundred if I ever attempted to max. I was thinking how nice it would be to have just something at home for when you want to belt out a couple of reps. Maybe a nice heavy bag and chinup bar instead lol.

I hope you tell them we are lol.

You'd be surprised how many gyms don't allow chalk. The last time I was in one that allowed it, they had to shut their doors as the "box" gyms that keep popping up are driving them out of business. :( I haven't seen chains in a gym in a VERY long time. I guess I can kind of see the need for a belt if you have issues with your spine, but I'd rather work on erector exercises to build up strength in your back to prevent any spinal movement personally.

Yeah, a chinup bar and heavy bag would be good. When I had my "big" house (3000sq ft), I had grand plans on investing in a REAL home gym. It was going to run me around 5k, and the wife put her foot down. :( Now that I'm living in a much smaller place at the moment while I'm back in school, I'm really glad I didn't spend that money as recouping costs would be insanely hard to do.

I hope you tell them we are lol.
Been tempted, but people get silly when you feed them conspiracy theories or pull their leg too much. :p

You're right about that, the real gyms are closing down in favor of those obesity supported slop-houses.
I'm conflicted about the belt/spine strength argument.
Has anyone been able to prove conclusively that belts weaken your back?

OSHA had a study awhile back where folks in service/manual labor industries had more frequent back injuries when they wore back supports all the time instead of during times of when it was truly needed. I know that's not quite the same, but that's where I'd start looking for data. I'd start digging right now, but it's ARM DAY and I have hot young girls to eye fuck at the gym. (Christ, my libido is on FIRE lately! Even nailed the old lady this morning and I'm ready for more. )

OSHA is a bunch of ass-backwards jack-off's.
I have to deal with their "compliance regulations" every day of the week.
What a f*n joke.

I'm also sure that the OSHA definition of a back belt is vastly different than the equipment we're talking about.

Go get em' big guy!

Speaking of hazard communication bullshit here's a mind-boggling one for you.

You see the labels on the outside of trucks that carry chemicals right? The skull and crossbones, the explosion logos etc. They come with a numbering system that ran from low to high, high being more dangerous. Get it? Greater number, greater risk associated with the material, simple.

Now for some god-awful reason, they've decided that in an effort to make it clearer for people to understand the hazards, they're now going to REVERSE the numbering system and change the name! Now it's going to be the globally harmonized hazards communication system, phew!

So what USED to be a 4 for explosivity will now be a 1! Lower number, higher risk, get it?
Yea, that's not confusing....
I can only see the "improvement" to this system resulting in more people getting hurt.

Good job attempting to keep us safe dickweeds.

Just had hazcom training the other day and was told about the new system. A joke

You work in manufacturing so you probably have to deal with a lot of OSHA bullshit too.

This is one of the biggest problems I have with OSHA, 0 accountability.
Say one of our factories were audited and found to be 100% in OSHA compliance.
If when the OSHA inspector is in the parking lot after passing the factory one of the workers sticks their finger in a light socket and gets fried, OSHA has no accountability for it. They're in charge of "engineering a solution" so that nobody can stick their finger in there and when their engineered solution fails, they pass the buck to the employer.

OSHA is the biggest scam going, they have nearly 0 overhead and only stand to make immense profits.
Think about it, what do they actually provide? They come in on federally mandated safety audits and then fine you into the ground if you're not up to date on their standards. They then change their standards, revisit your facility and fine the shit out of you all over again. They just changed their verbiage on their documentation now to say that OSHA has the final say in something's safety and that if it's borderline OK, it fails automatically. They've also changed things so that if you have 3 instances of a single violation, they can now fine you for each individual offence.

Ever try to actually buy OSHA approved anything directly from them?
A roll of aisle marking tape is almost $90 for 18 yards.
Literally exactly the same roll of tape without OSHA's hands on it is $12.

IMO, the problem of safety is getting worse for two reasons.
1.) Employees are now literally tripping over OSHA guarding and signage.
2.) *the bigger complaint* Employees no longer feel that they need to be responsible for their own safety.

We had an incident in our factory a year or so ago.
There was an employee in a restricted area designated specifically for fork-truck traffic. We've had countless safety meetings and e-mails telling people to stay out of that area. Well, this jackass decided he had a right to be there and wound up getting smacked by a lift truck. He was lucky, he didn't get seriously injured, just a couple of bumps and bruises. Guess who wound up getting blamed for that? The fork-truck driver.'

It's like blaming a F*N shark for eating the guy swimming in his hunting grounds.

If you can't tell, I really, really don't like the current state of OSHA.

I never liked OSHA, bunch of pencil pushing weak dicks that do nothing but imagine new ways to make companies pay for unnecessary shit.

I want a piece of that pie, easy money.

Doc, ever hear of any "OTC" sources like RUI for DNP?
I'm just curious at this point.

Clarification, I'm not asking for a source, I'm just asking if they're out there in an RUI type storefront.

*edit* Uh oh, I'm going to get a talking too here soon.
Hi Austin ;)

Hi Austin ;)

Not OTC but I do know how you can get into contact with 'Big D' who happens to be one of the most researched people about it. His quality is top notch and his crystals are potent.

I'm just doing some reading up on it at the moment.
Seems like a very interesting but of course potentially dangerous substance.
One of those things you just gotta experience, like the clen shakes.

Don't run DNP man. There are FAR better ways to cut up. Unless you like the idea of ingesting toxic waste into your body...

Oh, and OSHA does have a purpose. I know that they are a pain in the ass (I was in shipping for 8 years), but without oversight - employers literally can get away with murder. Do they gouge employers if they want to buy "OSHA APPROVED" items? Sure, but who doesn't rape the commercial/industrial sector?

I do find that funny that they're going to change placards around though. It's only been that way for what, 70 years? Skull and crossbones is corrosives by the way. :p

Well, I DO willfully eat fast food more than I should...

I was in shipping for 5! coincidental.

I was going to disagree with you about our views on OSHA but I think we're actually on a similar page.
My thoughts on OSHA summed up is that it started off with good intentions but when they saw how easy it was to essentially extort cash out of the industrial sector, became profit driven instead of safety driven.

For the record, hazard communication is a good thing.
