Doc only tested LH and Prolactin

My urologist only tested LH and prolactin and feels that the issue "is probably with your testicles." It seems like from everything I've read FSH needs to be tested along with LH. Are LH and Prolactin enough to determine that I do indeed have primary?

LH: 2.5 Range: .08-7.6
Prolactin: 7.8 Range: 2.5-17.0
TT: 235 Range: 270-1,734

The tests above were all done in house at the urology clinic.

My TT and FT from my primary (who uses the hospitals lab) were

TT: 194 Range: 332-896 <---3 p.m.

TT: 172 Range: 332-896 <----morning
FT: 8 Range: 4.3-30.4 <-----morning

Needless to say I don't like my current urologist and will be seeking out another option. He does not allow self injections so he prescribed me Androgel at one pump a day.

Yeah I would find another doctor too. One who will let you self inject at home is ideal. Once a week at minimum, I prefer twice a week probably but everyone is different.

Your LH and TT are clear indicators of Secondary Hypogonadism. Definitely your pituitary. Not your testicles.

Low T + Low/Normal LH = Secondary Hypogonadism

Low T + High LH = Primary Hypogonadism

Your pituitary should be "screaming" for your testicles to make more testoaterone by sending them more LH. It is not doing that.

Completely missed that in my frustration with the appointment. Even more of a reason to find a second opinion. So I guess the question is now whether or not to start with the androgel or wait until I can find another doc.

Unfortunately, you should wait. Many docs will want you to run blood work before putting you on TRT. And hold out for injections.

Give the Basic TRT Overview sticky thread a read. That will help you with your next appt. Good luck.

Don't start the testosterone unless you don't want to eliminate any potential causes that might restore you back to normal. You definitely want a doctor that understands the difference between primary/secondary hypogonadism, and what can be done in your case such as an MRI of your pituitary.

My .02c :)

Just to update this I asked around and got some pretty solid referrals for another doc at that same facility. He mainly deals with fertility but was pretty knowledgeable. He's got me set up on HCG monotherapy at 2500 i.u. three times a week until I get the wife knocked up; though we won't be seriously trying for another year or two.
