Does food lose it's taste or am I doing it wrong?

When you eat clean, does food start to lose it's taste? I just changed from a basic diet to a carb cycling diet and one thing I noticed is I'm allowed avocados which I love, but it didn't really taste good to me. Also, I'll tell on myself: when I knew I would be changing plans, I cheated on the old diet once, with my favorite thing in the world. It didn't taste bad necessarily, just seemed to not have as much flavor as I remembered or thought it would.

Eating 6 times a day, you tend to have to eat the same thing pretty often. I've always used minimal seasoning, but now it's like I can't even taste the food. I just shovel it in.

if your eating clean then the total opposite should occur as food should taste more like food. All that fast food is designed to kill your tastebuds and programs them to hate "real" food. Make sure to season your food when you cook it, youtube has lots of recipes on simple foods to make which are natural and real. All those soft drinks and power drinks are also the culprits in killing your taste buds, so stay off of them and stick to all natural homemade shakes, smoothies, etc. oh and coffee will also kill your taste buds. You will see that after a while your taste buds will once again allow you to taste the real food and give you true energy to become the beast that you are aiming to be.

If you are eating a LOT of the same thing, you will start to go numb to it and it will become bland. If you are making a LOT of chicken, spice a few pounds one way, another few pounds a different way, etc.

As for me, my sense of smell is all but non-existent so many foods have little taste.

I cheated by having McDonald's after not eating fast food for like two years. The amount of sugar in the chicken nuggets and fries turned my mouth to syrup, and I ended up barfing it all up later.

Which says something as I devoured several slices of cheesecake on a separate cheat, and was fine. Fast food is definitely a misnomer; it's fast CRAP. :wiggle:

OP: Your taste buds DO change with diet, so if fats (avocado) that were once a treat become a norm, you receive less dopamine from your brain when you consume it. In fact, I have to cycle my usual foods as I'll eat the same thing every day and get sick of them. Eggs are a big one that I love dearly, but have to take a break from them every couple weeks.

Well it turns out I seem to be coming down with a cold so maybe that's why there seemed to be no taste to my food. Still doesn't explain why my cheat didn't taste good. But it helps that it didn't cause now I don't want to cheat with it again.

I used to live in Chicagoland and ate White Castles by the sack full. Moved away, but was visiting a few years later (after shifting to a far healthier diet - nothing like I have now, but very healthy for the average American) and could not eat more than 3 White Castle burgers before starting to get ill...felt like I was eating lard on a dry bun...

I have noticed food tasting bland as well and have started using better seasonings like flavor god etc. I also try and switch up the meat and carbs every other day. Rice, then pasta, then potatoes.

I just started using all the different flavors of Mrs. Dash. It has really make my chicken start tasting great again. :)
