Wasnt sure where to put this.

Wondering opinions on drinking, how many people dont and who does and still sees great results from their workouts.

Im in college so its tough to go out and not get wasted, so Ive kind of been doing my on thing for the last 2 months.

Since Ive become really serious it seems like a waste to hit the gym hard everyday,diet and then go out and drink all night.

I drank on halloween and last saturday in the last 2 months.

Anyone have any input I'd like to hear it about drinking and training
 
When i was in school (just got out last year) it was ALOT more difficult for me to reach certain goals, and especially to maintain them whilst still partying occasionally. I was a competetive boxer, so prior to matches i avoided all alcohol at all costs and results were instantanious, but after a win i would celebrate and that would carry on for some while, and i saw diminished results.

if you MUST drink while out with your friends and girls (there better be girls involved)... i would suggest clear spirits cut down with water (flavored works well). I always took 2 multi-V's before drinking to avoid the morning after hangover and allow me to hit the gym as close to normal as possible.

DEFINITELY, stay away from the late night trips to the 'shit-food houses' do not splurge on your diet just becuase youre intoxicated.

since i've been out of school, drinking has all but been extinguished, except for some decent wine every so often with dinner. my results are incredible, i feel much better, and working harder than ever in the gym is easier than ever.

besides, think of the $ you spend on drinks in an average weekend...wouldnt that be put to much better use on supplements to further your progress in the gym?

Thats how I feel too, I honestly could give a shit what people think about me but the toughest thing so far about not drinking is no one understands your goals and realizes the dedication it takes to achieve them.

More or less people see me as the loser who would rather hit the gym on a saturday morning or even a friday night then go out and pay for it and hurt what I'm working towards.

You cant go to a party and not drink, its that simple but at the same time it really doesnt seem worth it for my short or long term goals.

i wouldn,t reccomend it......but grain spirits are ok ..1 or 2..beer is a no go i saty away from beer totally...but a mix rye and coke is ok as long as you dont get jacked up....put it like this if your on the gear your liver is going through stress too so why add to it...
 
Honestly drinking has been an issue for me more recently.
I'm in the hospitality ind. and my girl's a bartender so drinking after work is a very common practice.
Doesn't help that my girl works next door to my place and she always wants me to stop in for a drink after work.
I'm quite sure my results would be improved if I didn't drink as much, but it's tough when ure girl drinks also.
So far I'm still making 90% of my workouts and honestly time off is actually beneficial for me these days.
I think it depends on the individual.
I still seem to make great gains and maintain a steady "Social life".
To each his own.
 
its alot easier to 'milk' a drink all night and still have that social environment connection than to pound drink after drink. if you really look for the euphoria of intoxication, try to substitue another substance for alcohol; one that doesnt affect your progress as much. my friends and i have found Vicodin to be somewhat of an edequate substitue, snorted has a little stronger affect on me (i know these arent 'those' kinds of threads) but im trying to supply you with some options so your work in the gym is maximized.

i definitely dont recommend any smoking though...

and honestly...who gives a shit what others may think because you didnt do 4 keg stands, pound 3 jaeger bombs and drink half a case of miller? with good results from the gym, you'll be able to kick their ass and bang their girlfriends in a matter of no time. :)

I think alcohol sucks personally. Try smoking a little kind bud at the party and drink tonic and lime no vodka. I used to be a hardcore drinker and I still go to partys or bars and dont drink. Try it and watch how many more chics you can pick up not drinking. I love looking around at drinkers talking all loud trying to act all hard, I just sit there and laugh. I know it must be tough being in school but dude trust me watch how much hotter the girls you can get not being a drinker. As far as the advice you got so far it's kinda comical people saying whats good to drink and whats not. Alcohol is alcohol. If your not on gear though and just a novice weight lifter and dont care about your diet I would say hell with it drink but if your serious about training dont drink you will see why.

whiskey dick, lol. thats good. i got that many of times never thought of it but i think when i drank vodka i could fuck all night but whiskey or scotch and i was done.

lol me too bro. have have the same social problem with drinkin. for the last 5 mths i cut beer out 100%. Im all about nursing the gin and tonics usually 2 or 3 a night when i do go out which is about twice a mth. i also love to dance up a sweat too so i'll have lots of h2o near the end of the night which helps alot. dont forget that reaching REM sleep is also crusial for building muscle! so even if you don't drink not getting enough sleep will work against you as well. but there is an exception if theres a chick or two involved LOl.
 
lol, yeah.. I used to worry about whiskey dick, now I just worry about deca dick.

I still drink on cycle, and I feel fine. I also drink like 3x more water than I normally do, and like 2 glasses of water between every drink. I try not to get wrecked, but shit happens. I only drink clear liquor, and most of the time mix it with vitamin water and shit like propel. Works for me.
 
I am shocked none of the Vets have chimed in on this thread yet. Probably because they have seen the ? so many times. If your taking gear I have no idea why you guys have the need for a drink still. Also despite whether it's Grey Goose or Level Vodka or any other supposedly quality liquors you really dont want that extra stress on your liver if your runnung any gear. What I was told from the Mod's here and guys that been around was that maybe a beer or two on the weekends. All this talk about hard liqour is frightening I experienced it first hand. Not to be anyones Dad here but seriously ive landed more charges than you wanna know drinking on gear it is a stupid idea and fucked my liver up a little. Drinking + Steroids= Jail

I think when you are younger you can get away with it more then when you get older.

I didn't start lifting seriously until I was 29. From the age of 17 to 35 I drank every weekend (mostly just Saturday nights) religiously. I had no problems making gains with my weight lifting but I made sure that I did not work out on the days I drank as I remember doing some research that pretty much said it would null and void the workout. I also made sure that I gave myself 48 hours recovery time before I worked out again. My metabolism rate was high so I wasn't worried so much about gaining unwanted weight.

I had to stop drinking because in martial arts I crushed some vertebrae in my neck and was under medications that was not suggested to mix with alcohol. After that I just go used to not drinking every weekend and mostly that was do to not hanging around those people that did; and maybe matured some. Now I only occasionally drinks but at age 40 I'm not too worried about it affecting my weight lifting or other activities. I figure I have to live my life but I can do it in moderation and like binging on something sweet you have to treat yourself once in a while; a day is not going to ruin things. I just know like eating too much junk I will need to work out that much harder.

i think the deal here is moderation.
It would be stupid to NEVER go out with your friends becouse you would rather gym, thats how you lose friends. Just so you can walk around massive with no mates?
I think its safe to go out and get pissed maybe once a month, that way you can plan alot better what your going to do on the night out, look forward to it and most probably have a great night.

1 night per month on the piss isnt going to put you back that far, then atleast you will have friends who think your fun.
