Effects of juice years later

The Conquistador

Ology's Golden Boy
Hey, Just today a coach at my sis' school and friend of my moms since HS died from a heart attack. He was only 51 years old and in great health and was a little short of breath so he told somebody that he was gonna do a quick workout to get him back on track (he's the weight coach) and when he turned the corner he dropped over right there and died on the way to the Hosp. He used to be a competitive bber who won some pretty big awards back in the 70's and they think that years of roid use might have aggrivated his heart . It just really made me think since I'm on my first cycle and all, and made me kinda realize that there are real consequences with this stuff.

i guess lifting weights its not the best thing to do for your heart. it makes your heart big as i heard and there for you can have a heart attack. i also heard arnold has done a few operations on his heart. its a dangerous game that we are living for...

I agree it is dangerous, I've suffered injuries from it and have a breathing problem. But then again, you can get hurt or killed from simply going to the store and picking up a gallon of milk, who knows what is going to happen. It all comes down to personal choice, and if the coach's death is really getting to you, lay off the sauce man.

Its not really "getting to me" that much per se, it just made me realize that its a real life game we're playing with our bodies. ( lol I'm still young enough to have that "Invincible" attitude)

Arnold had the heart problem since birth, it is not gear related.

I hate how all the peple are like "He's so big, he must have taken roids!" "Roids Killed him!!" Makes me want to smack them for being ignorant lol

I had a heart operation about 3 years ago and I still have an Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) and it pisses me off sometimes because I'll get a little lightheaded and have to cut the workout short (Doesnt usually happen but when it does it usually happens with a heavy legs workout with heavy lunges and squats)

I'm suprised tho how much the weight training has helped to strengthen my heart

Good to hear weight training is helping, just don't be dumb like me and totally abandon cardio like I have for some 2 years. I put on an incredible ammount of muscle but no cardio for my heart, I'm paying for it everytime I breathe and step onto that treadmill. I am finally utilizing cardio because I realize the crucial importance of it

I need to throw cardio back in again... I did abandon it because I have a really high metab and im a hardgainer (or at least I thought I was, but im not sure anymore) and cardio really burns muscle off for me so I cut it out while I'm bulking, but I think I need to put it in again like you said

I know a guy who juiced in the 70s and 80s, IIRC he has had 7 heart attacks and 5 strokes. The last stroke left him pretty messed up, he could not walk for a few months, he lost all movement in the left hand side of his body, which he has back now but he is a bit slow physically and mentally.

Theres probably a big difference between a few cycles, not a subjective few but an objective one :) .
proffessionals who uses it alot is of course gonna get some kinda damage from it.. to much of anything is not good. People whore sick and eat like 1500mg of painkillers each day cause of a disease usually get some kinda kidney problem....
If youre in for it all the way then you probably already made your choice.. (all or nothing)

Maybe the coach abused gear. Maybe he was greedy and did a lot more than is normal for a bodybuilder. Maybe he had conditions he didn't know about, or ignored.

IMO is wasn't very smart to workout when he was short of breath.

Just some thoughts. Sorry to hear about his death.

I think the major issue is 1. genetics 2. quantity. If you abuse anything, usually no matter what it is, there will always be a consequence. Most people that have heart attacks at 40-50 have a family pre-disposition to heart disease or other heart ail-ments. there was a kid in my high school who was a good athelete, and had a heart attack while doing a pull up. Turns out he had some rare heart disease.

When deciding to juice you need to continue to take precautions when you get older....not just while on.

1.) Continue watching your diet - Lower Fat and cholesterol, sodium ect:

2.) Continue with strength training but switch more from 1.) Lower Reps to Higher reps (ex: 4 - 6 to 12 - 15) (3x / week)

3.) Include regular cardiovascular exercise 30 - 45 min Daily

4.) Get regular checkups with your doctor....Keep you up to date on any problems that are starting to rise.

As we get older we start to pay less attention to our bodies and thats when problems start to occur.

You only have one body so treat it right:

To say that caused his death without having his medical history is kind of a huge leap do ya think?

Who knows what all the factors were in his mortality? How extreme was he and what ailments might he have paid no attention to throughout the years?
People get used to ignoring pain and overlookig symptoms in the pumping iron/BB game ....How many times have many of not felt good, went ahead and worked out then ended up feeling better or vice versa?

I do it all the time! I really think many of us do, its just the nature or the iron pumping beast. If we didn't push ourselves every time we felt a little shitty we would never workout. I move enough weight on any given workout to equate to the work of building a house.

You really shouldn't be so quick to point to the sauce(or ignore it).

I believe with the knowlege we have today, if you watch your cholesterol and take care of yourself you will likely be fine. If you are genetically predisposed to something, know about it beforehand and take care of yourself.

As for my buddy I have no idea, I would not doubt that he ovedid things (he was a powerlifter), and also being a generally large person, half chinese half samoan his diet may and genetics probably played a role as well.

i read a study somewhere about HGH abnormally enlarging the heart but i dont remember if it was after prolonged use or what. alot of competitors use HGH and there have been a large number of BBs suffering from strokes and heart attacks. i would think moreso than other types of athletes. then again heart disease is the number one culprit killing folks left and right today. its not just people who are weight training or competing. alot of these folks are couch potatoes and alot of them are bankers and business men. so who knows.

Genetics is the key here.Everybody who served in an infintry regiment has an inlarged portion of their hearts, from carring heavy packs.Throw in some cardio, and balance out your training.Mom had a heart attack at 33yo it's just genetics.

You only need to do 30 mins of cardio 3 times a week for a healthy heart. No need to overdo it.
