Excluding these tests on labs, what should I look for instead?

I had my blood taken today. There are certain tests I can't get done. I'd like to know if there's a disadvantage to not having those numbers or if there's something else I could look at.

The ones I couldn't get are: Folate, IGF-1 (Insulin Growth Factor 1), and Ferritin and SHGB. Up until today (Had my blood taken) I was suppose to be able to get the SHGB but the doctor informed me that when you take this you need to 'freeze' the sample before it gets picked up by the lab, or something like that (Japanese is being loosely translated here. There's no direct way in English as to how the doctor said it).

This is what I got:

Cortisol

Comprehensive Metabolic panel (14)

CBC with Differential/Platelet

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Thyroid Function TSH, T3, T4

Estradiol

Progesterone

Lipid Panel with LDL/HDL Ratio

Testosterone, Free and Total

Prostate Specific Ag, Serum

Hepatic Panel

DHEA-S

Prolactin

These are what I'm getting with the exception of Prostate Specific Ag, Serum. Urologist says that a prostate exam I had 6 months ago along with my age (35) said it wasn't necessary. He gave me the option to include it but after listening to him explain why I wouldn't need it, I believed him. Not sure if that was a wise choice but I CAN get it done if necessary.

you can roughly calculate your SHBG from free test and Albumin(which is within your CMP)
IGF shouldn't matter as you're 35.
Ferritin would be nice but it's more of an issue with anemics.

I agree that you are fine with the ones you didnt get. If you want to pay $5 more for PSA that us up to you.

You are missing FSH. You need to get that one. I would get Vitamin D also.

Make sure estradiol is the Sensitive Assay -- not the Regular Assay.

DANG...I may have missed FSH...or the doctor may have caught it. It's one of those ones I can get done again. As for E2, there was only one choice and I'm not sure which one it is. How should I attack this E2 if it's not the sensitive assay?

There is a general sense that the regular assay comes in about 10-20 points higher than the sensitive assay. So 43 regular is about 23-33 on the sensitive. But that doesn't always hold true for everyone. It is better to get the sensitive assay.
