Extra Test At Tip Of Syringe?

So im pretty anal about getting exact dosage. Usually if i want 1cc i draw 1.2 ccs then push the extra.2 back into vial to get air out so the syringe reads 1cc. However there is some test in the area between the needle and the first marking on syringe. Does that mean im getting more than i want or is that just part if the syringe?

I believe the syringe is calculated correctly that way because a minute amount is left in the barrell, ect., but if you want that little extra just have a small air bubble by the plunger when you inject.

Medical Professionals will use the Air-Lock technique to avoid losing this amount of meds. What they do is leave .2ml of air in the syringe in order to clear the barrel at the end of the injection.

The airlock technique has the Paramedic injecting a small bubble of air into the injection, essentially sealing off the drug below from leaking out to the subcutaneous tissues above. To create an airlock, the Paramedic fills the syringe with the medication as usual. With the syringe clear of the ampoule, the Paramedic would then withdraw the plunger further, clearing the drug from the needle and entraining about 0.1 mL of air into the syringe. It is important that the Paramedic verify that the correct volume of drug remains in the syringe (Figure 26-13).

I uderstand the air lock. My concern was am i getting TOO MUCH test in the syringe by having some in the barrel above the 0 mark BEFORE i inject?

its accounted for, but the amount is so small it is impossible to be that accurate with the naked eye.

Definately overthinking it. I've used 4 different compounding pharmacies and the dosing has definately varied in the vials, just by feel. I would not even worry about that little bit, which is probably less that $.25 in testosterone. You would never notice the difference in dosing that.

Now for very expensive meds like Botox, they make special syringes that use up every last bit of product possible. On a regular syringe you could leave $40 in product inside the barrel of the syringe.

Ahhh ok good to know that its accounted for. I was curious becuz in rulers sometimes there is a milimeter before the 0 mark that is not accounted for so u have to add that in sometimes. But since IMT knows there shit then im glad the syringe is made to axcount for that space(which i believe is called the HUB) and ya i know i overthink it thats part of ocd lol

Lol haha thats somewhat confusing. So im safe to assume that the barell is part if what we are measuring when we draw?
