frosted flakes for breakfast?

Jeff Willets diet log say that his 2nd meal of the day is

2 scoops protein
2 cups frosted flakes
2 cups skim milk

What are your thoughts on FF? Id think theyd be loaded with sugar and would be a big no-no, but if Jeff Willet is eating them, they must be working

Jeff Willet is an idiot if he is eating sugary crap like that for breakfast, I wouldn't call that a meal at all--it is a waste of time to eat frosted flakes. Do not believe everything you read, some of the workouts the pros say they do would be counter-productive for most people. This diet is definitely not good.

My thoughts exactly. I think Jay Cutler says he eat some dumb meal and coke post workout. Breakfast cereals are junk...frosted or not. Rice Cristy, Corn Flakes, etc aren't filled with sugar but their glycemic index is about twice that of table sugar and even higher than pure glucose.

Maybe he does bulking. Everyone needs their "vices" once in a while.
In other words I wouldn't doubt it, but probably only when bulking.

In the AM with protien powder when your muscles are starving your body can use those simple carbs. Hell, people shoot insulin in the AM and take in up to 100 grams of dextrose etc then. And from the looks of him, Jeff Willet aint no dummy.

Ectomorph is correct. His reasoning for this is to raise the glycemic of this early meal for the starving muscle depleted of glycogen throughout the night. He works out first thing in the morning and has high glycemic carbs for his first meal and the 3 hours following post-workout. The rest of the day, he eats low glycemic carbs, mostly in the form of veggies. When cutting, he does cut back and eventually eliminates the frosted flakes.

He must be doing something right. I'm sure not too many "experts" on this board that look half as good as he does.

How are muscles depleted of glycogen just from 8 hours or so of sleep?

agree

Maybe he wants to keep his muscles from depleting. This would keep his body from feeding off protein sources for energy and keep the body in a positive balance for growth.

just a thought

That may be true, but why would something with a GI of like 120 be better than something in the 30-50 range? True insulin is very anabolic, but muscles only respond to so much insulin before you start to stimulate fat gain (drug use not included).

Regardless, the ingredients in these cereals are junk. The methods used to process the cereals takes out the nutrient content (then they try to make it look healthy by fortifying it) and destroying the good aspects of the grains. You end up eating essentially sugar with some synthetic vitamins added. Eat some rice or oats if you want cereal for breakfast, IMO.

I agree about breakfast cereals being junk.

As far as GI goes well the GI in foods can be somewhat overated and can be very easily manipulated.

Personally I think maybe its offseason as well and with all the clean foods he is eating on a daily basis the corn flakes serve most likely as a quick easy carb source and a treat at the same time to take out the boredom of clean foods.

Millhouse is right on here. He only uses it in the offseason and it serves as kind of a treat for him. To have 100 kcals out of 4000+ be in the form of Frosted Flakes early in the morning prior to working out will not hurt him.

Questioning Jeff Willet's status of natural is debatable but his dieting methods definitely work for him. If the frosted flakes serve as nothing more than a mental break, then so be it. You'd probably criticise the rest of his diet as well. It's mostly protein powder and green beans. But again, it works for him.

Here's the link to Jeff's training journal diet and supplements included:

If you think thats bad, i'll tell you what I use for my pwo carbs. PIXY STIX! I love those friggin things! Dextrose baby! And fun too!

Mormons don't lie? Then where are the golden tablets? Have you ever read "Under the banner of heaven" by John Krakauer--some Mormons are truly messed up. Eat all the crap you like but things are a lot easier when you keep your diet reasonably clean.

Hm....i think i might try the cereal idea. Maybe not frosted flakes, maybe cornflakes, or cheerios, or a whole grain cereal or something. Seems to be working for willet.

That sounds better, the empty calories of all that sugar seems like such a waste, I like corn flakes with craisins and whole milk.
