Hey guys, I do Jiu Jitsu and so all the joints in my fingers have become swollen and constantly painful. Someone recommended to me glucosamine. Does anyone have any experience using this for joint relief?

Just read an article in my Runner's World yesterday about this...found it online for ya:

:yesway: Thanks man. Great article, and that leads me into wondering if I can run again soon. I haven't been able to due to joint problems in one knee. It sounds good to me, and it's not that expensive, so I guess I might as well give it a shot.

I wonder how this stuff effects future arthritis. One of my main concerns right now is not just the pain and inablitity to do things with my fingers, but also the obvious future of arthritis in my fingers if I continue doing what I am. The article seemed to suggest it would prevent arthritis, but I guess one thing about most supplements is that they haven't been used long enough to really understand all the long term effects.

Thanks again bro for the quick response.

Glucosamine is great unless you are allergic to shell fish, then you should take topical glucosamine such as blue emu. The capsule form can cause an allergic reaction in those that are allergic to shellfish-that is because it is usually derived from shrimp shells.

Start off slowly with your running...Jog lightly...Do it on softer surfaces...beaches, grass, dirt trails (my fav!)...build up your leg muscles to help you...i know it sounds weird, but having larger than normal (for a girl anyway) leg muscles helps my endurance when im running...Im sure the RW website has some great resources on getting back into running...just subscribe to their mag while you're at it...love it =)

I usually get a glucosamine/msm/chondrotin combo. Has seemed to help me out alot. Try it for a couple months and c what u think.

I'll throw myself into this conversation as i've had several tendon/ligament injuries.

Does the standard Glucosamine/Chondriton/MSM combo work - Yes to a degree, but it takes time.

Now i don't pimp supplements because lets face it most don't work. However i've been using Topical Glucosamine by VPX sports and it has been a miracle worker.

Highly Recommend it. Just keep taking the oral along with it for better coverage.

Yup i use both Glucosamine and msn, it works but takes time as said. dont trust it to do wonders but it does work.
