got BF% monitor...

panteracfh

Knows whats up
got it today... took my BF...im full and everything so i figured it would be alittle higher, but it said 14.2%... i took it a few times, said the same...so i figure im at most that, if not lower, cause im pretty full and all right now and someone said that affects it and it could read high because of that...but anyway, its cool

Its an Omron Body logic Body fat analyzer Model HBF-306BL
you hold the grips with your hands...look it up on a search engine, you can find pics and descriptions of it

They say it takes more accurate BF readings if you are stark naked and slightly damp skin after a shower...

you should do those upon waking before eating or drinking anything. if you did it durring the day when full of food and water it will show lower bf% then you really are.

Can those scales & gadgets be more accurate than the caliper method ?

Very unlikely.

My instructions said not to do it in the morning, but rather at night, at a consistent time and consistent food/water intake.

Omron's run a little higher BF% than correct, IMO. The Omron's we have in the training room down here show me at 16%, and my Tanita scales show me at 9-10%. Calipers show me in the 12-13% range. I usually just use the Tanita's and Omron handheld and average the two readings, b/c one is too high and one is too low.

How accurate are those? I want one if they are accurate!!!!!

Not very. However, they are very good for tracking changes, IMO.

horned, yeah, my manual says that too but i think its wrong. For a month i had a trainner friend do a 9pt on me like every other day and my tanita followed that dead on when i read in the morning but it was MUCH lower at night.

example:
tanita - morning - 8.5%

9pt - 3 pm - 8.5%

tanita - night - 5%

the night time tanita was much closer to a 3pt test...

also you need to make sure that they all have a athlete or compariable mode or your bf will be much higher.

my thinking on this is that your body has had much more time to equalize to the same state over night...more so then any other time durring the day.
I get up, pee and take a reading every sat morning. mine has a db9 connection to a computer and software to track the results. it tracks date, time, weight, impedance, lbm, body water weight, bf weight, bf percentage and a few other things...and it tracks it for many users.

and you should never do an electroimpedance one after working out..it will stop your heart...hehe just kidding, it could just be really inaccurate.

and yes i agree with them not being super accurate and much better for tracking changes...and for that matter i would also have to say that i dont think calipers are any better and maybe worse depending on who's driving and how hard they pinch.

hydrostatic is the most accurate.

I know. And I'd love to be able to get one of those done.

The reason I like to do mine at night is, in the morning, it's usually 13-14% and at night, it's 9-11% Makes me feel better. But I still tell everybody 12-13% because of that averaging thing I was talking about.

doesn't really mean anything unless you calculate the lbs of fat based on the weight. mine shows higher fat% in the morning, but it is accurate, because I'm dehydrated and weigh several pounds less, therefore the fat% of my weight is higher. when I compared the lbs of fat morning and evening, the difference was minor even though the BF would vary by 2-3%.

austin, that didnt make any sense, were you disputing or supporting what i said? well to clarify, i completely understand intellectually what you said...which was just to verbalize the definition of Body Fat Percentage and support the fact that your body will be at a much more similar state every morning. what i don understand is the statement "doesnt really mean anything...." were you refering to my little study that compared electrostatic to calipers? if so, i would have to say that you are wrong.
