got denied to donate blood.........

Illtemper

went to lifesource today to donate blood and after they tested the iron levels she said my hemoglobin levels were too high and she can not draw my blood.. She said my hemoglobin is at 18.9 and they do not accept over 18.3. She then said that she has patients that come in for theraputic reasons and she's never seen this count as high as mine...

So what do i do now?? A month ago when i went to get my levels checked my hemoglobin was at 18.7 and the doctor told me to stop doing everything with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and see if the levels come down.. I didnt listen to the doc and just continued doing what i have been doing but im getting quite concerned since they wont even take my blood to throw it away..... I have to get a note from the doc for that but what is causing this level to go so high in the first place??

does Deca cause it?? Will test c cause it alone? Should i cut my test in half for now and see if the levels go down??

I dont wanna stop Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), i know what that will lead too.. Will drinking a ton of fluids help to lower it?? anyone got some advise??

try a different blood donatation site. you may have to travel to a different city, etc. Dont they have those blood mobile trucks that ride around town? If you can only get one donation done it should lower your levels.

then it will be just maintinance after that.

reduce iron in your diet

its funny you say that cause i was thinking what do i eat beside broccoli that is high in iron.... well after reading some im finding out that vitamin C increases the absorbtion of iron and ive been taking alot of vitamin C pills lately around 3000mgs a day, so i wonder if thats the reason behind this......Or maybe the protein shakes??

Im hoping someone will chime in that might have an idea.. For now though im gonna slow down the vitamins and see..
for some reason ive had a headache for that last week and a half and doesnt wanna go away, i thought it was because of the sickness going around but maybe it has to do with the iron level being high???

How much water do you drink everyday?

In the past, I found that by drinking more than 1 gal/day lowered my hematocrit as well as blood pressure.

Your levels are close enough to normal that increasing your hydration for a few days might just get them in.

Are you taking more Aromatase inhibitor (AI) than usual? When my e2 gets too low I get a headache that won't go away until I lay off the adex for a while.. Now I'm a little concerned bc I was getting ready to give blood for the first time.. There's a portable blood donation trailer in a shopping center by me.. Good luck man

Its not the Aromatase inhibitor (AI) causing the problem atleast not that i could imagine.. I stopped taking my Aromatase inhibitor (AI) about 2weeks ago cause i was sweating like crazy during the night and it was thought that i crashed my E levels.. So ive been letting them build back up and this monday that just passed is when i took an AI.. I was taking them 3x a week but now im gonna stick with 2x a week and see how things goes.. Chip would be the man to talk to about this but from what i understand is hes recovering from surgery so hopefully i'll hear from him soon.

@ecdy, i suppose i dont drink enough water. I constatly drink water throughout the day but now that its getting cold out here its hard to drink as much as i probably should..

@packgus, what does the mobile truck have to do with them not taking my blood? or let me ask what would the difference be?? if they'll take it i'll find one somewhere..

based on my experience, different places check blood iron differently. Those trucks are usually desperate to get donations so they maybe a little more relaxed in their requirements.

blood

i can't give blood, i was honest and told the blood bank i was on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), they flagged me, and my doc won't give me a letter until i'm in the danger zone, so i'm screwed i guess:smashcomp

All these guys saying to reduce iron unfortunately don't have a clue.

Iron and hemoglobin are two very diferent things......LOL......you can have zero iron in your blood and still have high hemoglobin levels.

You need to talk to your doctor and get him to write orders for "phlebotomy" treatment at your local hospital. Essentially what that is is the same as donating blood, except the either throw it away or use it for research puropses.

There is also a good chance your hemocrit levels will be high as well.

Exactly as stonecold says. You get that high with hemo, don't f'k around and talk to a doctor. I can pretty much guarantee your hct is too high too.

What causes it to go too high? Could be a lot of things, but if you are on deca, that's one of its approved therapeutic uses. Test alone can as well.

Some have a propensity to go high, some not so much. When you get the levels down, assume you'll go high and donate blood every 3 months to avoid getting it this high again.

I am assuming you know your baseline readings pre-HRT and you know you don't have something else like hemochromatosis.

this is good info THANK YOU ALL... Yes i do know all of my Pre-hrt reading and i was fine.. well in that sense anyways:spin: I called the doc and next week is when i'll get to sit and chat a bit so hopefully ill get this underwraps asap and then not do like other have suggested every 58days!
