Got Mono, have a question...

Hey all, I knew it wasn't anything good when my doctor right away said I had it. They told me to stay away from contact sports, and I forgot to ask about lifting. I'm not as hardcore as you guys, but have laid off of my lifting routine cause I recently moved and had to get things situated. I've found a couple posts stating that you should just rest and continue when it's gone. I believe returning to lifting last week is what really brought it on. I got some pills for possible bacterial infections, and I know you have to wait Mono out, it's a virus. My question is do you think it's safe for me just to do some real light cardio since I'm feeling better already? Like some moderate walking on the treadmill or just shooting some hoops at the gym(no pick-ups of course). Thanks for any advice.

I'd lay off. I think its the spleen or pancreas that is swollen severely when you have mono and you can run the risk of rupturing it with heavy exercise. Someone will prob correct me. I'd lay low till its completely over, mono is tough enough to heal up from by itself, no need to place extra stress on it by working out. An extra week or two to make sure its gone it more than worth running the risk of relapse or getting sick again imo.

No, not a monolift(haha). Thanks for the advice. I'm feeling probably back to 85% right now, physically. I've hear that exercise can bring the virus back. But I was just curious about a little shooting some hoops around(by myself) or walking on the treadmill. Something to keep me from going insane, knowing that I can't get back into my routine. My liver and spleen were not enlarged the doctor said. I can always have my sister(nursing student) feel my stomach and tell me how things are also. Thanks again.

I really do not see a huge problem with you doing moderate excercise such as treadmill walking or shooting hoops. I would not lift or do any contact sports or strenuous excercise however.
