Gym Etiquette

Unwritten rules of the gym (would make my time so much more pleasant if everyone actually followed them)

1.Don't curl in the squat rack!
2. Put your fucking weights back! (Acceptable to leave one plate on each side of the bar for certain exercises)
3. Put the weights in the RIGHT spot. No one wants to be going to do a drop set and grab a heavier weight instead of lighter because you're a douche bag, and no one wants to take 5minutes taking off 10 and 25 pound weights to get a plate.
4. Stand a minimum of 6 feet from the dumbbell rack when exercising so people can get in front of you to put back/ get new weights. (Acceptable only if you are running the rack and it is necessary to be close)
5. Do not spot someone or assist a rep of someone who does not know you and has not asked you to.
6. Never turn a man down who asks you for a spot
7. Do not critique someone's form who does not ask you to, unless you feel it is absolutely necessary because they are going to injure themselves
8. If someone is watching their form in the mirror do not stand in between them and the mirror and start to curl.
9. Do not put 6 plates on each side of the bar and shrug the weight a quarter of an inch three times.
10. Do not set your bar on a bench in between curling sets just so you don't have to bend over to pick it up!
11. Do not stand in a large group and talk in a crowded area of the gym!

Comment any other things you see at the gym that really bothers you!

People talking on cell phones makin me wait to do my squats
People lifting in those super super tight jeans
People looking in the mirror longer than they lift for
People telling me I should drop weight in squats or not go so low to save my knees
People loading up 3plates on bench only to have the bar move 1inch

Yeah those all kind of annoy me. I have learned to just do my own thing. I hate when guys small talk to everyone in the gym. That is a big reason why I just put in my headphones, lower my baseball cap and hit my workouts because I don't want to talk to guys. Another pet peeve of mine and around 80-90% of the people in the gym do this and that is when people don't work out to failure. I don't care if you are doing 6 reps or 20 reps, you should go until failure. People generally dislike the feeling of a muscle breaking down and therefore give up. I see guys bench or curl and I think to myself that they could have easily pushed themselves and gotten another 4-6 reps on that exercise.

Super setting is fine but you can't take up 4 or 5 machines and think I'm not going to jump in and out my weight on hate when dudes do this at my gym

I just went off about gym etiquette problems today also, all very valid points.

Almost makes me want to drop some coin on my own stuff and bypass the whole gym bs.

No shit! I hate people who use 5 different machines or areas at once. I'm getting in there and getting mine. But I would say to #5, I've seen a couple guys struggling on that last rep and I hop over and help em get a couple more. I appreciate it when someone does this for me as well.

I don't know if you're mixing intensity and failure but there are many more ways to train than just to failure, some even more productive and conducive to one's goals. I don't leave the gym with the tank half full but I don't train to failure either and busting my ass is not an option in the gym it's a standard. I do agree though on the small talk, that shit is annoying. I do what you do and put the headphones in and crank them, mind my own business but ppl still want to come up and talk. I usually see them out the corner of my eye and pretend like I didn't see or notice them. They typically move closer and get in my way and stand there until I acknowledge them :(. Mean or nice, no matter what I do that shit never fails

You forgot thr biggest one you go to the water fountain and some idiot is filling their water bottle then they turn around and look at you you take a step foward thinking they r gonna move for you just wanting quick sip but they continue with their rudness wtf!!!!

I might be a little bias on #6 Lol I had somebody I didn't know do it 2 weeks after I switched up my routine and was going to failure 3 sets in a row to gauge my strength increase and the assisted reps before I needed it kinda fucked up the whole process. Not a big deal just pissed me off at the time

Or the locker room where guys just walk around naked like no one is there they make towels usually its some really old dude i guess when you get old you dont care?

Haha I feel ya. I meant #5 but u got what I was saying.

Hahahahha yes ^^ ALWAYS the old dudes. They'll even have a towel but instead of putting it on they will just wear it over their shoulder, the best is when then wanna just talk to you like that to. Doesn't really piss me off though I just laugh... old dudes basically can just do whatever they want

I fill up a 1L bottle 2-3 times at the gym lol but if someone's behind me I always let them go first that's just common courtesy!

I get what you are saying. I am basically getting at intensity. I just get pissed if I don't see people push themselves. Basically I see guys doing the same exercises all year long with no intensity or sweat beating off their heads. Lol.

to the gangsta kids, pull your fuckin pants up..... theres no reason why you should be wearing xxl at 140 pounds

edit - another thing.. smith machine are useless.... stay away from them...
