anybody else have a high BUN count? I guess it's from eating high protein diet, I don't remember right now what the exact number, I'll check later but, it did come up as a high reading.

is there anything I can do to lower the BUN count? I really don't want to have to cut down on protein, how else am I going to get results if I can't eat a proper diet?

anybody else have similar issues? eating a high protein diet so having a high BUN reading?

From what I have seen User BUN can be increased by just working out. I dont believe it is anything to worry about unless it is huge high reading not just slightly elevated.

This is correct. It is common for weight lifters to have high creatinine. This is because the muscle tissue gets broken down and has to go through the kidneys.

Ive seen guys go in for blood work and the doc wants to send them for kidney transplant lol

ok so as long as it's from protein and working out, and not something else it sounds like it's ok?

yea if thats what its from, but you can still over do protein intake and put stress on your kidneys. I've seen people have it super high, like 1,000 i think.

wow 1000 lol maybe I'm not doing that bad then, I was almost freaking out. I'm almost certain it's from the protein / working out since before I started getting healthy I had a blood test done seeing my blood glucose at 270 is what got me into changing my lifestyle and I have that blood test with me it was on Oct 22 - 2011, and it shows BUN at 12. Which is in normal range, I started eating healthy almost immediately and within a month had started working out regularly and eating a high protein diet, on 12-28-2011 I had another blood test done for my protocol and BUN went up to 22, out of range considered high according to the criteria set on blood test. I'm going to check the exact number what it's at on my most recent test shortly.

If your taking creatine powder your BUN and your creatinine levels will rise ; throw in a high meat protein diet combined with whey protein in the mix and you have higher BUN and creatinine levels than normal . What was your GFR ? (thats your kidney flow rate and very important)

I'm not taking creatine powders, only whey protein and a high meat protein diet. I try to get at least 1 g of protein / per pound of body weight a day. I'll be sure to check GFR and reply back.

a BUN of 22 is just a little bit high , but your blood glucose of 270 is another story , thats diabetes territory (any reading over 200 non-fasting or 125 morning fast) . Have you been told your diabetic or at least pre-diabetic ? ~Bo~

Well I have to check my latest blood report that 22 was from January, waiting for my blood report to come in. Yes been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, 270 was before i started getting healthy back in october, at my blood test in January it was at 97 fasting so my doc didn't put me on sugar meds. Lately when I check it in the morning fasting it's in the 70's or 80's the other day I checked it was at 67 fasting.

The 270 / diabetes is what woke me up to make a change in my lifestyle / habits.

I had a couple of 126 fasting readings in 2009 and was told to watch my sugars and carbs per meal or I"l be pinning insulin someday and have since made great improvements in almost 3 years . Lowering my bodyfat has helped too , if your overweight and you lose fat weight your blood sugar naturally goes down . It looks like your aware and on top of it ...

OK what are you on

210 mg test cyp E5D (going to move this to E7D starting next week)
1 mg anastrozle E5D (going to probably bring this up to 3x a week)
500 units Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) E5D (also moving this to E7D)

Ok, I posted my blood results in a new thread but, these are the stats on the latest test in regards to BUN -

Bun 28
Creatinine 0.86
eGFR 116
Calculated Bun/Creat 33

Your GFR and creatinine look great , I would think your elevated BUN is from your high protein diet , which most of us here have .

I cut my protein intake in half last year for a few months and my BUN and creatinine levels all came down , when I resumed my high protein diet they went back up . It is what it is , just high protein . ~Bo~
