Hip Flexors

Hi Folks.

Last night while training legs, squatting and noticed that Iv started to get pains in my groin as soon as I go above 100kg. This is the 2nd week Iv noticed this but up until last week Iv never experienced it before, yet Iv not Injured myself, well knowingly Injured myslef anyway. Its kind of a pain in the ass as I feel its holding me back as the heavier I go the worse the pain gets, also I dont get the pain on the way down, only on the way back up. Im thinking It could be my hip flexors but Like i said Im not sure whats caused this as Iv never had before. Was wondering If anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas about what I could try to prevent it happening again?

That sounds like your psoas. Do you sit most of the day? If you do it's quite common to have weak hip flexors which will also make your hamstrings tight. I always stretch out my psoas before heavy squats. I have found a lot more strength in dealifts and squats after adding GHD sit-ups to my leg days.

I haven't experienced it personally, but general wisdom suggests it could be related to tightness above or below in the kinetic chain as well. Deep tissue massage and lots of stretching might just do the trick.

X2 on deep tissue massage also acupuncture works me.I have to stretch them out everyday once they tighten up my lower back starts to lock up the joys of getting old lol.

Cheers

Thanks guys, I do have a pretty active job so dont really sit down too much when working but I think I do definetly need to be stretching more for longer, especially when training my legs as when I working my legs I get to 100kg and my legs are fine but my groin are killing me and my workout, lols, just dont want it to hold my leg workouts back, especially since Im starting a cycle tomorrow, lols. Thanks guys for your Input though, much appreciated. Doing legs again tomorrow nite so will have a gd stretch off and let you know how I get on.
