How important is stretching?

Only form of stretching I get is doing very light weight on the exercise I'm performing...but then I'm reading on articles on doggcrapp training and fs7 and they keep mentioning this deep type of stretch is crucial in muscle growth, one in dc training had me confused said to hold 90 pound dumbbells above chest with lungs full of air and lower to the point it hurts for 50 seconds? Wasn't sure anyone do this type of stretching?

Not sure about the shit you posted, but stretching is very important for injury prevention. What I like to do is hit a really light set to get the blood flowing, then do a deep stretch afterwards. It helps prepare the body for the pounding you're going to give it.

I have been training for a long time for me personally i never felt the need to strectch before or after training and still major injury free for the moment

I also avoid stretching before a workout.... my muscles are cold and stiff, seems more likely to hurt them. Instead, i start with a light set to warm up.

I have read several studies on stretching.
Some research says it is beneficial to stretch others say not to, can be very controversial and contradictory. One study i red tested runners and they found that runners that did not stretch were actually faster.

What they don't highlight is there test subject had probably be doing it for years and were very conditioned for that type of exercises. My take away would be for anything new it is important to have the full range of movement and stability.
I never stretch cold always do a little cardio to warm up then stretch with weights to full movement.

If you haven't been doing the exercise for a long time chances are your tendons and muscle fibers are short, if this is the case stretching becomes very important

Doesn't lack of stretching make you rigid? Such as your body movement? My old P.E. back in middle school was huge but walked like a penguin because he worked out and never stretched.

I also read that someone who is more flexible can put on more muscle. I do not know if that is true or not. I forgot the reasoning behind it in the article but that stuck.

If your lifting properly and to full range of motion it wonk make you rigid, it will actually increase your flexibility

My mussels always seem a lot fuller when I stretch properly, I get better musle contractions too

I stretch the antagonist muscle I'm working in between sets of that exercise. For example, when doing pullups I'll stretch my pecs. When you loosen the antagonist, the lats in this case will have a stronger contraction. I can usually get more weight up on the target exercise. Then at the end of the workout I stretch the muscles I worked while they're still warm. Gotta get those nutrients flowing.

Similar to what I do, warmup set prior, stretching afterwards with stretching between sets. I find lats the most rewarding to stretch, just feels great.

Sounds good bro, I might start stretching alot more between sets.
Antagonist muscle aswell as the agonist that I am working.

Also, i find without stretching, the pumps get so painful that I cannot continue with my sets, i have to have a 2-3minute break before i can even lift again because its so tight i cant even move.

I wouldn't stretch the muscle you are working while you're working it. The whole point is to make that muscle contract stronger to the outside resistance. By stretching the target muscle you are loosening it and from experience I can tell you I lift less weight doing it this way. 5 minutes on a stationary bike or something and a couple warmup sets with 30% or so of your 1 rep max should be all you need to start moving that heavy weight.

Everyone is different.

I never stretch the muscle i am working out. However, Between sets i stretch other muscle groups.

EX. If i working quads...between sets i will stretch my leg bi's. OR...if working the tri's....i will stretch my delts.

This technique allows me to kill two birds with one stone.

I also over 40...so I FEEL stretching is definitely something you need to do as you get older. I've heard nothing but good about the practice of stretching (done correctly of course).

IF you study all the great champion BB, they are all very flexible. Flexibility is another form of strength.
