How long before you get "shut down" and infertile?

Hi,

Going to start TRT in 3-4 weeks and want to freeze some sperm first for future use.

My question is, how long does it take on TRT before you become infertile?

Because I am trying to plan whether I should leave sperm first before I start TRT, or if I can do both
simultaneously.

Why are you starting trt to begin with? You might already be shut down and infertile. Did you discuss any of this with your trt doc?

Using hCG helps one maintain fertility while on TRT. And if necesaary, one can come off TRT later and usually regain fertility. But it never hurts to have a backup plan and freeze sperm. But as Tbone said, you should make sure you are fertile right now.

Id start with blood work and make sure it includes LH & FSH levels. Get it done now and see what they are.

I have already done that. LH was 5.53 (ref range: 1.7 - 8.6) and FSH was 2.19 (ref range: 1.5 - 12.4).

I'm going to run some hCG as well...but I just like to make sure. I will be going to a sperm bank soon and they will test to see if I am fertile or not. I don't know why I wouldn't be, however.

I have low T (between 316 - 530 depending on the day...but with a FREE T very much lower than the reference ranges).

Your FSH is pretty low. This is responsible for spermatogenesis. Thats why I wanted to see those #'s.
