Get big
What daily dosage should I take of Flush Free Niacin?

My LDL is currently 122, I need to get it down under 100, within 3 weeks or alteast get as close to it as possible.

I plan on taking Reg yeast Rice (1200mg ED)
and the Flush Free Niacin (What dosage though?, I am 180lbs)

I also have some 20mg Zocor cholesterol medicine that I can get my hands on but I am worried about it causing muscle damage/loss. If I only take it for a week or two. What do you guys think the chances of me loosing muscle are?

So basically there are TWO questions I have...

-Flush Free Niacin Dosage?
-Taking Zocor for only ~2 weeks worth it, what damages could occur?

thanks!

Do some people take No-Flush Niacin to reduce "redness" in the face, neck, etc?? Or just a myth?

Niacin is known for bringing blood to the surface and causing redness... no-flush is supposed to eliminate this.

So then, if one wanted to reduce blood rushing to the face, they'd simply avoid niacin, with or without no-flush?

no, every person reacts different to gear/vitamins/herbs etc... Niacin is B3 needed for proper circulation and healthy skin. It also assists in the metabolism of carbs/fats/proteins. People with high cholesterol need higher does and because of Niacin function a side effect is this redness which the flush-free is supposed to prevent. Most people have success with no sides using the flush-free of Niacin BUT in some cases few still have redness.

Try it... It does work. If the redness occurs to a point where you would prefer not to take it then stop.

However, I would take a 100 complex 3 times a day. B-Vitamins work best together and the amounts that Dirk has recommended go against what I've read stating you should not exceed 300mgs daily. Nor should you take this much if you have existing liver problems or High Blood Pressure.

You could try Increasing you fiber, taking garlic, lecithin and Vitamin C (3000-8000mg divided) NOW makes a product Super Odorless Garlic, plus Cayenne and Hawthorne. I take this year round at 2 a day and double that while on gear.

The clinical doses used to lower bad cholesterol are 1.5g / day----

Taking a complex b vitamin like you are suggesting will do nothing for lowering cholesterol.

Statement was made that they work BETTER together, meaning the function will work by itself but combined with the other Bs may yield better results.

I said existing liver problems...

Regarding your dosage:

All patients taking nicotinic acid to lower serum cholesterol should be closely monitored by their doctor to avoid complications from this medication. Self-medication with nicotinic acid should definitely be avoided because of the possibility of missing a serious side effect if not under a doctor's care.

Patients on nicotinic acid are usually started on low daily doses and gradually increased to an average daily dose of 1.5 to 3 grams per day.

All my info is based off self-medicating... which is confirmed above from your article.

Also make sure whichever your decide to take states niacin or nicotinic acid and not niacinamide. I agree with the article that timed release should be avoided

Regarding HB caution from your article:

The effect of high blood pressure medicines may also be increased while you are on niacin. If you are taking high blood pressure medication, it is important to set up a blood pressure monitoring system while you are getting used to your new niacin regimen.

How does you quote make your statment legit? You never said anything about taking blood pressure medications. Only if you had high blood pressure. Which in that case you would actually experience some lowering.

Also where does the medical statements made say that you need the other vitamins to be more effective. Thats not the case here.

Stop trying to save face because you were wrong

First of all WTF are you trying to say?

I quoted how your dosage is too high to start on or do without medical supervision. Second I stated that I said EXSISTING liver damage.

If your asking where I got my information they are called books... here's one you can check out, I think they are releasing a new edition in a few weeks. "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by Balch.

Its from the book and several others that state that B Vitamins are known to work better TOGETHER esp since they all assist in the break down of fat/carbs and proteins in the body.

As far as HBP I misread your article... but I'd like to see research that proves Niacin lowers BP. All it does is temporarily reduce BP and large doses not tailored to someone could lead to an increase in heart attack or other heart disease. Its been stated here by many veterans that a normal BP can vary from person to person and putting someone that dose so quick could result in serious complication especially if they have high blood pressure.

They say there is better results with the flush (niacin or nicotinic acid) over flush-free (niacinamide). People have seen results with both its really what your preference is.

well seeing as this thread is touching on flush-free niacin, how much niacin would one take if taking the kind that causes flushing?
i rememebr a thread that touched on niacin and red red rice yeast and other supp's to help during a cycle but i can seem to find it..if any one knows the thread of which i speak toss me a link thanks.
