Illegalization of aas

Someone refresh my memory and take me back to 1989? How did everything fall apart/go wrong and what was the F.D.A.'s stance on aas. What was the story of their illegalization from begg. to end.

I Believe The Gov Thought It Was Protecting People, But Ultimately It Harmed Them Because More And More People Are Affected By Fake And Contaminated Steroids From The Black Market.

I think even some Govt. Departments testified against making Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) classified as it is today
The American Medical Association, Department of Health & Human Services, and the DEA.

Money.
Steroids were used to enhance sports performance, and the average joe lost interest because his sports hero was a cheater. Therefore congress, because of the special interests, banned steroids because of made-up health concerns, based on absolutely zero medical evidence.
Take a look worldwide. In the US, athletes get payed the most, and punishments for steroids are harshest. In other countries, athletes get payed less, or there is less interest in sports, and steroids are used as normal with a doctor's prescription. Where sports and megacontracts are virtually absent, like the middle east, steroids are freely available without a prescription.
