In gym - asked if I am taking drugs

I was just at my gym and someone come up to me and asked it I was taking drugs to build muscle. Even though I am on TRT, I told him I was not on any drugs. I'm reluctant to tell people that I'm on TRT. Should I be reluctant to admit it?

He said I was lucky to have great genetics and guessed that my age at 55 - actually I'm 72. I felt really good about the compliment.

I have to admit that I take higher test doses than my doctor recommends. I like to keep my testosterone trough at about 1000 (but let it drop to about 600 just before a blood test). The higher levels improve my muscle strength, size, and stamina and decrease fat.

I get asked all the time, and I freely admit that I'm on TRT. Most guys in their late 30's+ are looking to find ways to discover how to achieve their goals - and I've had about a half dozen of them find out they were hypogonadal. It feels great knowing that I can help others that way. :)

I would agree on not being very public about TRT personally. Of course, the given here is a random encounter in public. My close friends and family know fully well that I do TRT. Heck, it's like finding a miracle cure for a shitty disease (wait...it is precisely that). I just don't care to divulge to every little peckerhead at the gym who may or may not understand the importance of keeping optimal hormone levels. In your case, I'm quite sure the person would not appreciate your decision and would have a myopic view of why you are taking test.

Just my opinion...congrats on getting the attention. Your hard work is paying off!

Had a gal the other day say she wanted to ask me something but didn't want to offend me. I laughed as she said "are you on, you know, like any...uh...performance...uh..."

I chuckled and said "Performance enhancing drugs? Yes! I'm pushing 50, not taking them borders on irresponsible!" Once she quit laughing I explained that I take testosterone to bring my levels to that of a healthy and gifted young male athlete. She said she was wanting to do that, and was wondering if I was. She reiterated that she didn't want to offend me.

I asked her if I would take offense because it was obvious that I just took testosterone and didn't actually have to work for it and grinned. She laughed and said "no, you work harder than anyone here."

Yeah, I know that but I asked it just to drive the point home. Drugs don't give me results, they let my hard work give me the results.

For my friends and family, I am very open about my TRT use...for random strangers at the gym, I would not tell them. I would tell them they could get excellent results if they actually knew how to eat properly...and that no, unless they were taught by a professional they actually are not eating properly.

I view Low T the same as I view Diabetes. Is a diabetic ashamed he has to inject insulin, a vital substance his body no longer makes enough? Of course not, so why should I be ashamed that I have to inject testosterone, a vital substance my body no longer makes enough of? I am not sure a diabetic would talk about his personal medical issues with strangers. Random Stranger, "Hey man, do you shoot insulin?"

I suppose it all depends on how and why the stranger asks about doing steroids or PEDs. If they seem to be asking out of honest curiosity and without malice, I would probably tell them about Low T and how it destroys lives.

As an insulin dependent diabetic, I'm open about that too if it comes up lol. Maybe that's why I don't care about revealing the fact I'm on TRT. I'm not less of a man because of it; people are just silly I think when it comes to stuff like this. :agreed:

I'm not telling anyone at the gym. Some people will try and discredit, run around telling other gym members your on steroids, the rumors usually snowball from one tale to another. The next thing you know they're calling you a steroid dealer.

I am new to this forum and will start TRT next tuesday. But like many has said already, to a strange = non of their business and if you tell them, they will somebody else and so one, next thing you know someone will ask to buy some from you.

but to specific loved ones = I will tell them.

I can honestly say that had I not hired 3J and cleaned up my diet, I would be diabetic right now. Turns out my family has a history of everyone (but my dad) becoming diabetic by their mid 40s regardless of their lifestyle and eating habits. This has gone back as far as anyone has known. I found this out when I started taking glucosamine tablets for joint health and my fasting glucose level went from the mid 80s to over 110 in a single month. When I stopped, it returned to normal in a single month again. This happened while I was 100% on point with his carb cycling during a cut...it was the only thing I added. Turns out glucosamine turns into glucose...but that small amount should not have hit me so hard!

Genetics are both wonderful and horrible.

The answer to that ? is no, absolutly not and I am deeply offended that you ask. Ask me a ? like that again and you and I wii have a serious problem, unless you are into gym sales, and in that case take the prospective client aside and explain that you have a friend who may be able to help him, but it is on the low down and to keep quite about it, unless he is cool and may be another prospective client:)
