Hi Guys did some bench last night and seemed to have pulled something on my right pec, the area I am talking about is the space between my nipple and the start of my shoulder blade thats the area that seems to have torn although i have no bruising,
The doc has prescribed some anti inflammorty pills etc but i could train anything after that went not even biceps, any ideas what it could be?

I'm not making sense of this. Did the doc tell you that you could or couldn't train?

What i mean was after it happened I couldnt train anything after that the doctor reckons i must have a 5 day lafyoff from gym

Well five days isn't that long so I doubt it's a tear. Maybe just a strain.

Well she said to me that its pointless having an xray as it wont pickup anythign I guess if i am still sore by saturday i will go in and see her

Well an xray won't show anything but I'm still surprised she didn't want to see you.

First off, if you truly pulled the muscle (aka ruptured) then you most likely would've dropped the weight on yourself, b/c there would be almost nothing on that side of the body to perform the movement.

I'm guessing you strained the pectoralis major, which is really no biggie. Just rest and ice, because elevation there is sorta impossible. If the pain keeps up, see the doc in person.

Also, try and be a little more specific on location.........are you talking about the area between the nipple and the anterior delt (belly of the pectoralis major, area) or are you talking about something more on your side.......the "between the nipple and shoulder blade" part is bugging me, since the shoulder blade is in the back and the nip is in the front...

yeah, i agree it is probably just a strain, and an xray will be a waste of money, unless you have some cracked ribs. an MRI will be much more useful for you imo. also, imo you cannot make a proper diagnosis over the phone, without the doctor seeing you... especially when giving such a broad description of the problem, difficult to pinpoint where the problem really is. you should go see someone if the pain doesnt subside within a few days...

Thanks Spikey Lizard firstly thanks for your your response here is some answers

Well it was at the last 1/4 of my rep when it went, so i could have easlily dropped the wait if it happened when the bar was on my chest,
I tried to do incline bench and the minute i tried to put pressure on the chest i felt the pain.

Ok yes well basically if my right arm is extended parrallel to my shoulder its the mass of muscle that kinda sits on the side of my shoulder and bicep, basically sits underneath my armpit the kinda place where you would normally get stretch marks hope this helps shit if i need to point it out on a pic then post one or i will I think its more to the front

Yes I thought about training shoulders today but think it will be stupid i am giving myself a full week off (although i dont want to ) its probablly better

Yeah, probably just a strain. Take this week off (good judgement already on your part) and see how it feels with some light weight next week. If that's tolerable, then begin to work back up.

Pain

HI Guys started training again did my chest and still felt pain although was kinda slight i was very concious of my form and only went up to 165 pound for 10 reps (I usually push 232pounds for 8reps) but I managed 133pounds for 10 on incline bench, so its ok i guess hopefully i will be stronger next week, its good to be back but i can certainly feel i have been off for a week

Just work your way back up to where you were before and don't push yourself too far too fast. That's a sure way to reinjure yourself.
