Is 3x a week enough?

Simply put, for an "advanced" lifter, can a 3 day a week split be enough?

I used these when I first started lifting and made great gains, but have recently been doing 5x bodypart splits.

However, progress has STOPPED even on a 5k calorie diet! I mean, I am thinking that it may just be to much gym time?

Simply put, IS 3 DAYS A WEEK IN THE GYM ENOUGH for someone in an advanced level?
 
Genetics + how much you keep your muscles guessing with alternating workouts + Diet and rest+ other factors.

Who was it,Mike Mentzer, that said he trained clients only once per week? And it was effective.

I know as a smaller framed guy 3x a week is perfect, but also strong on me as I hit it hard. Every 5th week I need a week off to rest.
 
in my opinion yes,

whilst im not an advocate of the mentzer routine i do feel that the principles are fairly good. shoulders and arms/ legs/ chest and back mon wed fri is enough. you should always feel fresh, if you dont take a week out and go again.
I pesronally prefer a 4 way split covering the whole body every 8 days
