Is rice the new meat?

I was watching the Nightly Business Report on PBS today (yes, I like that kind of stuff) and they had the following story on Rice Protein.

Want muscles? Rice is the new meat | Nightly Business Report

Here is a snippit from the story:

A study published in the Nutrition Journal found that exercise subjects who worked out using whey protein and rice protein had the same performance and recovery. “I feel that it’s easier on my stomach,” said Goka.

Most people think of rice as a carbohydrate, but about eight percent of each grain is made up of protein. Axiom uses a fermentation method to extract and concentrate the protein, and the rest of the grain is used for things like rice syrup. The husks are burned to create power. “Every part of the grain of rice is used,” Janow said.

Any of you guys use rice protein? Do you like it and agree with the story?

Lol another example of the media completely misinterpreting the data - idiots.

The study showed that on a high protein diet protein sources become less relevant since, provided your consuming normal mixed meals, you should be able to get all the EAAs necessary.
For example, rice is an incomplete protein but combine it with beans (another incomplete protein) and you end up with all the EAAs. Same thing goes for diets where you might be consuming rice protein shakes, but meats & dairy are still a part of your overall diet.

The conclusion of the study was that performance & recovery was the same due to the high protein diet both groups consumed, NOT because of what they consumed postworkout with no regard to the rest of the nutrition plan - as the stupid article suggests.

In short, if we make a direct comparison between meat & rice the rice is clearly inferior because the protein content of meat has a 94% digestibility rate while for rice its only 76%.
And the fact that meat has more overall EAAs.

So yea...its not even close :)

Wouldn't surprise me if those behind this article have an agenda - PETA or anti slaughter of animals or something like that

I call bullshit as rice protein is not a complete protein. I love me some rice, beans and breast of chicken, but forget getting my protein from rice. I agree with Roush probably some bullshit study backed by animal lovers. Speaking of which I can see a vegetarian getting huge and strong, with eggs, milk, yogurt, etc, but what about a vegan how the hell can those guys even function while lifting. Every vegan I see looks like they are suffering from a wasting condition.
