Fellas, in your opinion, is the Stationary Bike effective for Cardio and bodyfat loss? I have ALOT of bodyfat to lose!! I'm 30 years old, 6'3" 265-270lbs and 20% bodyfat. My goal is to get down to 8-9% bodyfat. Has anyone used it as their main source of cardio when doing some SERIOUS dieting?? A guys made me a good deal on a demo model Schwinn Stationary Bike at his store. Normally, it runs $650, but he said he'll let me have it for $400. Take a look at it on www.schwinnfitness.com. It's model 117 and comes with a 30 year warranty on the frame.

Well I'm not going to check out the Schwinn, but to answer your main question - Yes, a stationary bike is certainly effective for cardiovascular training and fat loss. That isn't just my opinion, it is an indisputable fact.

Trevdog, what do you use for cardio? If that's you in the avatar, you look like you're in pretty good shape.

I do most of my cardio on a recumbent lifecycle. I bought an older one on ebay for home. I also often use one at the gym if I'm doing cardio after lifting.

I've been doing a lot of running lately because it is part of the training for my job. Its great cardio but I have a bad back so I wouldn't choose running if I had a choice. However, if you can run, do. I think variety is good to avoid boredom and also because different types of stimulus is good in and of itself.

And yes, that's me in the avatar. If I was going to put up somebody else, I'd choose somebody much bigger, lol. But I am fairy lean. Probably about 8% now.

Trevdog, I went to Oshman's last night on my way to work to test ride some of their equipment. Man, I ran across a heck of a deal! There's a Schwinn Stationary Bike for that's normally $400 on sale for $199.97. I rode that MOFO like Lance Armstrong and it didn't flinch an inch. I'm talking top quality! The funny thing is there were a bunch of Proform Bikes, which are crap, for $250-$300 that were no where near the quality. I'm jumping on this one along with a cheap Treadmill to get me by until I'm able to get a Smooth 5.0 Treadmill for $1,000.

Sounds great bro. I was going to buy a proform cycle but then I finally decided I wanted a used lifecycle. There is something about the type of resistance that I really like. I got one on ebay for about $600 but it was a pain in the ass to get it to me. I had to have it shipped on a pallet through amtrack and then drive 2 hours each way to pick it up. I think it was worth it though.
