I usually get black angus eyeround..its very lean, and I trim any remaining fat. looks like pure red meat.

for a change, I tried a 93% lean ground beef, it was more fatty on the foreman grill, I thought I saw 97% grnd beef at one time, but can't recall?

Why would you eat such a lean meat?

If I was to hazard I wild guess, I'd say cause one doesn't want the fat.

Then I'd want to know why you would need to so severely restrict fat ;)

Just get 80% lean ground beef and drain every bit of fat out of it. That's what I do. It's cheaper, and I still get nice lean ground beef.

The leanest ground beef I've found in my area I believe is 96% lean. But I actually have to go out of my way to get it, b/c there is only 1 grocery store that I know of that sells it.

What a stupid question. Like StoneCold said...he doesn't want to get fat!

The leanest I have seen is 94 and that is pretty damn lean. It only has like 6-8g of fat or so.

And for whoever said 80 is lean: have you ever read the fat on 80?? It still (if I remember right) has like 20+ grams of fat per serving!! Way too much for my liking. I like 93%, I can still eat hamburgers and hamburger meat and still be low in fat.

jynx said to drain the fat, first off.

Second, it's not a stupid question to ask why you would so severely restrict fat.

Maybe if you're running DNP I can see that, but I can't see any other reason for such severe restriction.

I eat about 225g of meat, either eye round or chicken breast....about 1/2 lb. chicken breast, this has very little fat (I trim any visible fat)...chicken fat looks nasty, not appealing even taste wise.

...well anyway I thought the fat content was 8 or 9 grams for 4 oz of 93% lean grnd beef, since I eat twice that amount, that would be 16g fat..I'm not a low carb diet, usually have 60-75g complex carbs w/ a meal, I didnt think I'd need this much fat per meal, esp. since the fat from red meat is not primarily "good" fat.

Thanks Frosty, and also guys its NOT fat that makes you fat. Calories make you fat. It depends on your metabolism too, but calories are calories. Sure, you don't want to have a 1000 calorie McDonald's value meal unless it's a cheat meal, but eating a clean 1000 calories is still 1000 calories. The advantage to eating clean is that you have more control over your p/c/f ratios so you can fully provide for your body.

16g of fat is not a lot of fat at all. Fat is needed for hormone production (especially testosterone).

"Good fat" is a misnomer. Saturated fat, mono, and polyunsaturated fats are all good! Saturated fat and mono should be at least equal, if not the saturated being higher. Poly's should be the lowest, and less than 10% of calories for sure and preferrably under 6%.

The only "bad" fats are trans fats, but excessive poly's is not good.

wal mart has 96% lean here and if you grill it or drain the fat when used for mex or italian food its damn near fat free lol .

Yeah, the first time I fried up some of that 96% lean ground beef, I was surprised at how little (if any) fat there was when I drained it.

can you pan fry (god for bid) 93% ground beef sirloin into meatloaf and still not get to fat ? tastes better!
just try draining off any excess fat/grease immediately after frying it up this will get rid of some of the fat .

I'm still lost as to why someone would need such low fat meat.

Animal fats are important for your health and gains.

Ok I think during a bulking cycle fat content especially found in red meats are anabolic property that help to increase testosterone production. Hence why alot of people favor high fat diets with low glycemic carbs.
