im gonna be in crutches from 3-6 weeks to repair a broken meniscus i suffered from playing basketball

ive been working my upper body for a little over a month and seen nice gains which i wouldnt want to lose

im trying to find excercises i can do for my upper body, especially my back, that dont require having my legs bent, as my entire right leg will be in a cast during that period of time

any help is appreciated

upper or lower back?

also, depends on the gym you attend. if you goto a gym with the newer, fancier machines then you'll be golden. plenty of these machines allow you to sit (with legs straight if you like), while pulling, pushing, etc. the bentover, partially supported row may work - requires you to stack plates, and you lay at about a 45 degree angle. a little tough with a cast, but you'll manage. lastly, pullups from a suitably positioned bar and with a spotter for your graceful dismount.

Pullups are the best lat exercise for everyone in my opinion. You can easilly keep your legs strait (unless the bar is way too low or you are very tall) so I don't see why it would be a problem. I think you should be able to dismount onto your good foot, and if you are afraid of falling you could get a spotter to help. For your other exercises, I don't know if you would be able to bench or shoulder press in your situation. I think you can't, then like diegothailand said, the nautilus type machines would be very very good since they were designed to isolate your muscles.

yep. so, see, nothing to worry about. either keep hitting the iron, or sit in front of jenny jones and get fat (they still have that show on in the states?)

I'd check with my doc just exactly what was going on. I think that you may have torn your miniscus ( I'm pretty sure you can't break cartilage).

Why the hell are you going to be in a full leg cast? That is by far the worst possible thing the doc could do for you, it will totally delay your rehab and cause severe muscle atrophy.

Have you sort a second opinion

hey my workout partner just had his acl and meniscus fixed.no cast at all just a knee brace.his doc told him to go all out on all upper body stuff.just do it seated.bench press, shoulder press, chest suported row, pull ups,lat pulls, curls, skulz, everything in the world but squats and deads or any leg exercise.of course this was about 10 days after the surgery.so you can see you can do it all pretty much.

talked with the doctor today and am pretty satisfied

gonna get surgery on nov 23 and that very same day he'll give me some exercises to make sure my knee and leg stays pretty healthy

i also wont be in a cast, ill just have certain wraps around my knee which im guessing will be removed during therapy and shit

thanks for the help guys
