In a night full of one round fights the action was non-stop. Two belts were on the line. Joey “the Dreamsmasher” Villasenor paired up with the Undefeated Jorge “The Nakedman” Ortiz from Victor Davila’s Combate Libre Academia. The fight was a brutal war with knees and punches flying like a hail of bullets. The fight ended when a flurry from Villasenor split the eye of Ortiz and he was forced to tap. Earlier in the evening Ed “Tombstone” Tomasselli faced off against Socorro’s most prolific 135lb fighter Zac White. In a brawl of wills Ed was able to rain down strikes while in White’s guard forcing a Raul Porrada to call an end to the devastation. Even as White was landing blows of his own from the bottom, they were not significant enough to show a change in direction for the fight. Referee Porrada’s years of training gave him the proper instincts on that ending.

All the way from Queensland Australia Dan the Hunter Higgins was paired up with the Kick boxing phenom from Phoenix Gabe “the Hitman” Rivas. At the bell Dan opened up with a head kick that shocked not only the Hitman but the crowed and referee as well. Gabe quickly recovered and opened up with kicks of his own. In a tangle of strikes and blows the fighters found themselves on the ground after a lighting fast takedown by the man famous for his high profile attachment to the world famous Australia Zoo family. The high paced battle that ensued on the ground found Gabe an opening to get back to his feet, just as the newly named Greg Jackson family fighter Dan Higgins, found an arm bar. Blinding effectiveness had the crowd wondering “what just happened?”.

A great showing by some new schools to King of the Cage with Art Baca’s Martial Arts, and Socorro Academy of Martial Arts. Though both teams saw no wins, they did put on a great show and will be sure to return with better results and a greater respect for the veterans of the fastest growing sport in the world.
