Late night cravings.

i eat my 5-6 small meals a day and i dont cheat to much when training. My main problem is at night. it gets to 2-3 in the morning and i get these uncontrollable urges for junk food. Like for instance there is a bag of chips ahoy soft baked cookies in the closet right now that if i get my hands on them they wil be gone in a matter of minutes. Ive been thinking about what would be best for late night appitite control. Any reccomndations?

I make a big arse plate of finger sandwiches...Roast Beef, turkey, Ham and just put mustard on em and sometimes cheddar cheese. No Mayo. Great snack for late at night or any time youre hungry...open the fridge pop a couple in your mouth, its healthy and easy.

The sooner you get full, the less you think about junk food.

When you get these cravings, eat a bowl of lean protein ... meat, fish, chicken (zero carb for night food) or have a few scoops of protein powder (casein based), or just have oatmeal + protein powder if carbs are not an issue with your diet. A big bowl of cottage cheese is also a good choice.

RJX has some good points, however, if your goal is to lose body fat/get lean, then try at all costs to avoid carb-containing foods around bedtime. Carbs can inhibit growth hormone secretion, which you don't want at this time (assuming you want to recover and grow from your workouts while you sleep).

What I do, is I have a big tub of whey/casein protein in my room. Keep in mind, I have it in a flavor that I like too :) Chocolate, mmmm..... Anyway, if you have those cravings at 3:00 am, do a couple of scoops of whey/casein and that should supress your hunger for awhile. Plus, it will keep you in an anabolic state, which is important if you want to build muscle. This may or may not work for you, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a go, yes?

You might not be eating enough during the day. Can you squeeze in another small meal during the day? I usually have a casein-based shake right before bed along with 2-3 grams of fish oil. This always holds me over until morning.

Mix up a protein shake before bed
Make sure there is some ice in it to keep it cold
Keep the shake by the bed
When you wake it chug the shake if you are hungry
Go back to sleep

Add in some natty PB or Olive Oil for some fats to slow digestion as well if you would like.
