legs when benching

any one have any tips on getting ur legs into the lift.

I find it easier on lighter weights

But when under something more heavy (like the 265 today) I forget to drive with my legs or forget to breath

The breathing thing I can conquer on my own

But I need some help with getting my legs into it.

If it matters I positioning my feet more under me like metal militia style

That's a good start. Like you said, the trick is to actually concentrate on driving with your legs. When you are trying to push a big weight it doesn't immediately come to mind to drive with your legs. Most think about not getting crushed. So the real trick is to consciously think about it as you are pressing until it becomes a natural part of your lift. Getting the entire movement down (chest, arms, legs and maintaining an arch) takes time but once you have it down it should be second nature.

So I guess there is no real trick, it's just thinking about getting your legs involved throughout the lift and ensuring that you do it everytime.

I find that when I concentrate too much on my legs I forget about the other elements of the lift and it hurts me overall.

If you are going to push just dont take them too far under. I would say leg drive was the last thing I figured out in trying to "get it" all down.

Arching the back while benching? Isnt that same as doing decline then? Am I missing something?

Try to really focus on driving with your legs on your warm-up and then once u have conquered that than increase the weight and focus on your legs, just do it g r a d u a l l y.

It's used in powerlifting to reduce the range of motion of the lift so that you are able to lift more, i.e. shortening the distance between your chest and full lock-out. I'll attach a picuture. It's not great, but it kind of shows it. I'll try and find a better one.

let me help ya aboot. my as is jes barely touching the bench, big arch as well. you can see how high the small of my back is off the bench.

small guy by standing on your feet and not letting your ass be planted on the bench you cant not use leg drive. just make sure to let your ass graze the bench. in a meet if they see daylight under there you get redlighted.

Seems like cheating. That also goes along with bench shirts.

take your fucking nonsense elsewhere

call it what you will but remember this a PL'er lives and dies by his lifts so its safe to assume that someone with good numbers might know a thing or 2 about how to EXECUTE a lift..vs a bb'er who just wants to look good

I notice alot of peoples heads coming off the bench on the way down. I dont do that but alot of guys I see especially heavier lfiters seem to do this ???
Is that to generate force ????

It's different for powerlifters than it is for bodybuilders. If you are just trying to get size, you probably don't want to lift that way. If you want to get a huge bench, then learning how to bench like that, using a shirt, etc are things you will want to consider. It all depends on what your goals are.

are there any rules dictating head position in competition?
