Losing fat for type I diabetic

I've been reading about people using insulin to lose body fat but im still not sure how i should go about doing it. I have type 1 diabetes and im on a insulin pump. My insulin is fast acting...........If I understand right it seems like most people take around 10 units after working out. But with me being on a pump I get insulin all day long and when I eat I can take more. What I really want to know is When and how much should I take.

Hiya mate,I'm also type 1 diabetic.Ive lost near 2 stone in belly fat.I read a book written by doctor Bernstein. Its basically the Atkins diet with a few changes for diabetics.I just cut the bread spuds rice and pasta out of my diet. You want to get the best anabolic use from your insulin.Im doing this by eating nearly all my carbs as soon as possible post workout along with your shake. That way your pumps driving the insulin in to counteract the carbs and shuttling the protein into your recovering muscles.Days you don't workout cut your carbs as much as possible so the insulin isn't storing fat.

Ps whatever you do don't sacrifice stable blood sugars for weight loss or muscle gain.Stay healthy!

about how many carbs are you talking about. I normally eat 5-6 times a day with about 30-40 grams of carbs each meal. but latley i've taken out the carbs in my last two meals..........so should i just eat 100-200 grams post workout? thanks for the response

I only eat carbs post workout mate.As many as you want post workout.Get yourself a low carb shake too I take about 3 shakes a day keep your protein high so you don't catabolise.Might seem like "oh shit no carbs! What will I eat?"Once you get onto the way of keeping the carbs out there's loads to eat+ as a diabetic you ll feel far better.Lots of diabetics have delayed stomach emptying so your feeling full and bloated as,due to nerve damage, the foods not getting away. When I started it I used to eat rice or spuds pwo to supplement the added insulin benefits. Now I just take a bottle of lucozade as I don't feel as heavy.Fat doesn't make you fat carbs do.Thats what I've been doing and it's working for me anyhow mate.

Its extremely difficult with injecting insulin all day . Losing weight is never easy but burning fat is often even more difficult for people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes .
