Mass and cardio

Hello everyone, im 6"1 around 205, been lifting for 4 years. My question is with cardio, i have some belly fat that i would like to lose, however i would still like to build muscle. Most of my fat is in my belly, its not that bad but would like to lose it. Does anyone know how i should handle my cardio?

low intensity cardio for 40 min plus . get into your target heart rate. start with 3 times a week and see how it works for ya. diet is key also do your cardio in the morning if you can before u eat.

Ok, here's a different take on things.

Sprints/interval training. Sprint training is known to be an effective way of maintaining mass whilst assisting fat loss. Look at rugby players and their training....rugby players need mass, and do lots of sprint/interval training.

Essentially you can do 2-3 days per week of 15-20mins of sprints and thats its, rather than 40mins + 3x per week. I use them during cutting and bulking periods and I manipulate the intensity. You can change up the intensity, number of sprints etc any which way u want as it's a flexible system where you can manipulate the variables

Go to my link below and read Loki's articles Mind and Muscle Magazine on sprinting for maintaining mass and aiding fat loss. To many people think that jogging s the only option for burning calories.

I like boxing for cardio-if you do it right it leans up your waist and brings your heart rate up.

It's just that boxing is one of those activities that is hard to maintain a consistent heart rate and monitor it throughout. But of course that's not a major concern for everyone I guess.

I'm with sputnik, interval work is supposed to be much better for preserving muscle than moderate intensity cardio.

I have the same problem with the little bit of fat over my abs so i started doing the low intensity cardio 3 times a week but i was wondering, I dont lift on wednesdays and i would just go to the gym and do high intensity cardio. Should I still do that since that would be the only thing i do to really burn calories that day or should i just do the low intensity for 40 min.?

I'd stick with low intensity, but that is just a personal preference based on my own experience of what has worked for me.

I need to fit my cardio into the days im at the gym lifting, whats best after my workout or before? My diet is bulking, but I cant get to the gym anymore than I already do so I gotta fit it in when im there...?

u can do interval stuff on the tread mill...do it anyway u want....1 minute at a pretty fast clip...then one minute walking, the repeat from anywhere of 10-15 mins, or just do 15 secs flat full clip and then 1 minute walking for a total of 10 sprints....u name it

Always after your workout, save your energy for the heavy lifts.

Cheers Cman - will be starting with 10mins of cardio for the first week today - will do it after every session (4 times per week) - gotta keep bulking, but the belly depresses me....

you dont need to do any cardio if your are disciplined enough to have a STRICT low calorie diet. granted cardio is great for overall health, speeds up metabolism and so on, but if you hate doing cardio, like me, just train hard and eat right and the fat will come off.

the pro's out there dont get below 5% BF by doing just cardio, it is MOSTLY diet

And what about the most important muscle of all....the heart?

Do cardio.

I myself do not have time to do cardio other than when I train, so after my training session I do about 30-45mins moderate intensity cardio, keeping my HR between 65-70% max HR. I do this 3 times a week. But when I am cutting I crank it to 4-5 times a week at 60mins. Along with diet should take you no time.
