Hey ladies! I was wondering if anyone had experience with microdermabrasion? I have residual old scars from acne on my shoulders, and although my friends say they aren't noticeable, I would like to get them removed for the hot weather so I can wear short sleeves!! I have always broken out a little on my shoulders and back from constantly being in the gym and being sweaty (and trust me, winstrol doesn't help the skin either lol). I have found ways to keep the breakouts to a minimum, and I wear Nivea shimmer lotion to disguise the scars, but I still feel self-concious about them. Please share your experiences and suggestions! I don't want to pay the hefty price if microderm doesn't work; are there any other products that will help? Thanks in advance!

Hey girl, Madine had this done twice I think along her jawline for the same thing. She did say she noticed a difference in appearance and texture, but the real results come from between 6-8 treatments, and @ $100 a pop, that can get expensive. But if its worth it to you, then it prolly is worth it to pay that much.

Hey sweetie!
Yes, I had three treatments of microderm; it did help a little with texture, but the marks are still there and it was $125 a pop!! It's pricey, but if you can afford it, it works.
I have the Mederma, you can get it at any drugstore. It is a little expensive, and it says that you will have to use it for at least 4-5 months to see results. I have the patience of a five year old, so I didn't stick to it, so I can't really say that it does or does not work?
My girlfriend is an esthtitician(sp?), and she says the best way to get rid of the marks is to get a good exfoliant(St. Ives Apricot is a good, cheap one), and try to exfoliate every third day. If this aggravates your skin, try dropping down to once a week. I have oily skin, so I can handle the third day treatment, just get to know your skin's tolerance. Follow up with an antibiotic cleanser, and a good moisturizer. If you keep this regimen up, it will cut down on the appearance.

I am an esthetician who does this and other treatments.
Micorderm results vary because there are different machines. Best bet is go to a dermatologist and maybe get them to write it up so your insurance covers it. They have the strongest machines usually....OR something that is sometimes more effective and less costly would be (glycolic acid body wash daily and) chemical peels on that area. You might get rid of that scarring with one or two of those! Again, dermatologist got the goods but do what you can afford. Either way~ you should be careful gettin sun on the area once you treat it.

my ex had great results with gylcolic acid peels... basically from what i have seen in him and others who have used "peels" the idea is to shed the dead cells and get your skin to produce new healthier skin.. get rid of the old and in with the new ;)

i know personally when i use a super fine grain exfoliant ( i swear by Clinique 7-day scrub)my skin tends to repair itself a bit better... I also use AHA and Retin-A here and there when a scar is bad...
I have used Maderma and it is great for superficial scars. ie; light skin cut, but for the deeper "craters" and shit like that personally i would suggest either the Retin-A or some sort of gylocolic acid peel...

a Professionally done glycolilc acid peel/treatment is probably the best way to go, but Loreal now has those home kits you may want to try out...

Also check out www.xlafa.com for other amino products...

Good luck sweetie!! I feel ya!!

i would suggest a chemical peel to remove a few layers of skin to grow new fresh skin go to a plastic surgeon or dermatolgists

I'm also an esthetician and micro is a good way to exfoliate but for deeper scars laser resurfacing would work really well. A friend of mine had it done and the healing takes a while but it's worth the results that you get from it

Microderms are great for preventing acne. You'd be suprised how much dead skin you have on your face. My girlfriend works at a laser skin center and they do everything there. Another thing you might be interested in is a levulan peel. It is a chemical peel that is activated by laser light, that is great for acne and scar removal.

Hey Minx.. did you ever decide on a method to remove your scars??

I have been breaking out so badly i am embarassed to wear my tank tops! I had this folliclitis crap and was put on Keflex.. but i picked and popped because i like to punish myself lol... and now i have dark spots/scars from being in the sun. I hate it... but i don't think i was on the antibiotic long enough because i still get them...
Plus i know i am not drinking enough water and after a weekend out on monday i am a bit broken out... the toxins are escaping through my pores lol...

so i have been using vitamin E oil, aloe, cocoa butter.. they seem to help with the healing and scarring, but i am still not satisified. I am thinking of a professional treatment this fall which is why i was wondering what you decided on.
Also, cortisone seems to help the breakouts heal a bit..

hit me back girl
luv super

ps: how is competing? getting leaner going?

Glycolic acid peels are probably the best bet, im an esthetician also. I think microdermabrasion doesnt give much results. Is way to expensive. Buy a really good glycolic body lotion, it going to cost more and the ph has to be low and a descent % of glycolic or even lactic. It makes your skin on your whole body amazing after long term use. Bad thing.....watch the tanning. Not only are you more sensitive to the sun and can burn but....it makes your scars darker and they wont go away as quickly.

what is a good example of a glycolic body lotion?

Thanks

caladin....I found a product called DDF that is sold at say a Nordstroms depending on where you live. It has really helped me with oily skin and blemish problems. They make a bodywash and a lotion that has 2o/o in it. Hope that helps you out. It is a little pricy but less then microderm. Try it let us know what you think give it a week or two. Saphire

I have a Nordstroms not far from me. I will look into this DDF. Thanks Saphire! I will let you know how it pans out. im guessing I should just go into the cosmetics dept and ask for DDF?

thanks!

caladin....go into the salon by the cosmetic area of Nordstroms and ask them for Doctors Dermatologic Formula (DDF) Thats the entire name. I bought the body wash for my acne on my face and shoulders, back. I think 8.45fl oz was 30 or 35 dollars. I think that is works really well..Let me know .....I am pretty sure they carry the lotion as well it is under the name salicylic acid same as glycolic... Saphire

hey Minx...

i'm having some success at healing my skin and scarring with hydrocortizone cream.. otc actually... But if you get a script from a doc there is a 5% and higher...

it is working better than mederma, vit e and the rest...

we'll see
luv super

hey girl! missed ya! yessss i have had the same problem with the dark spots (and the picking too lol). i ended up trying 7 treatments of a glycolic peel with microderm. the scars noticeably improved but did not completely go away (and at $150 a pop i don't think it was all that worth it). THEN i listened to my mother (funny how that works sometimes) and used Retin-A (http://www.skinsite.com/info_retin_a.htm) on the dark spots... and voila! they are barely, i mean BARELY there. (and still fading). only problem is that retin-a is some strong shit ( i may wait until the winter to aggressively apply it; tanning is not an option, and my shoulders and arms are getting very splotchy from the skin sloughing off. other than that, life is gooooodddd. just tired from working my ass off. chasing the dollar will break ya back, you know? ;) good luck supah; let me know what you try and how it works for ya..

minx-

how long did it take for the redness to go away after the procedure?... i talked to a surgeon who wants 550 for 5 treatments.... This next spring/summer i will try laser surgery, but i have heard horror storys about it, so im kinda nervous.......

btw "clobetasol propionate gel" (this worked the best), and "lustra AF" worked wonders for getting rid of darker skarring....
