misinterpreted the 5x5

I think I might have misinterpreted the 5x5. Do you do 5x5 with the same weight or do you add weight from set to set?
ex1: 100 x 5, 100 x 5, 100 x 5, 100 x 5, 100 x 5
or
ex2: 85 x 5, 90 x5, 95 x5, 100 x 5, 105 x 5

If you add weight from set to set, then how do you do your weekly 5lbs increase? Do you base it on your heaviest set? or on your starting set?

Ahh it appears I have also misunderstood the 5 x 5 if that is the case.
Will fix that next time im in the gym, Still been seeing improvments tho.

re

i just started the 5x5 program.
it says to
"ramp up to" your 5 rep max

google bill starr's 5x5 program.i do the intermediate phase

example: bench 135x5,185x5,225x5,250x5,275x5

there is alot more to it then this though. check out his sight.

you can do it either way. bill stars intermediate version has you ramping and his advanced version has you staying more or less with the same weight.

google bill star 5x5.

I stay at the same weight for my 5 working sets... I only ramp up for my couple warm up sets. (i.e. 155x12, 225x10, then 5 sets of 315x5) Then you add your 5 pounds the next week for your 5 working sets. That's the way I've always done it and it worked great.

ive found it most productive to do a couple of warm up sets then get right into the working sets. use the same amount of weight each workout till you can complete the five sets of five, then go up the smallest increment possibly. ( usually 5 lbs) ive added about 100 pounds for reps to my friends bench like that in about 4-5 months

Depends on which 5x5 you are doing. It's not just sets across or ramping it sometimes is a mixture of both. Post up what you are doing so i can help you. I personally use 5x5 and love it. I have my own tweaks i have done to it to fit my O lifting as well. If anyone is interested i can post this up

thanks for the clarification. I've been doing the same weight for my working sets, but I based my routine on Needsize's post not Bill Star's method. The routine i'm doing is very similar to Needsize's.

Needsize's 5x5 is not the original 5x5. I think you should at least give the real on chance. Do an 8-9 week 5x5 and see how you respond. I bet you'll be addicted to the strength gains
