what do you guys think is the most effective ab workout. Iv'e tried quite a few and havents seen that great of results and im not fat at all. im just trying to get a six pack going.

go to the liquor store.. b/c its not the exrcise its the diet and cardio i could do 5000 crunches a day and see no result if i didnt run and ate shitty foods..

I've been eating very clean for the past couple years, working out etc. and could only faintly see a 6 pac. After reading a post by pb, I tried a new ab routine that you do on a decline bench - you hold a 45lb plate, slowly go down(so your back is about parallel to the floor), hold for 5 seconds, then slowly come back up. Do 5 sets of 5 or 6 reps. I've been doing this for about 3 months now and it has REALLY brought out my abs(even the lower ones). I usually do it a few times a week and sometimes throw in some other ab exercises w/o the weight. Try it, it worked for me.

thanx joshbeam, ill try that. but why use a decline bench if you are only going as far down to be parallel with the floor??

Because there is no rest at the bottom. You are constantly bearing the weight.

Cable crunches .. bar none. There is no better exercise to shock the ab muscles.

Like any other muscle group, if you want it to grow, you need to train for growth. That means heavy, intense and low reps. Forget the 30 rep crunch sets. Do strict heavy cable crunchs with good form, 4 sets, 10 reps HARD, 3 times a week. And most importantly, squeeze (or flex) the living shit out of the abs as you crunch and hold each rep for 2 seconds.

I guarantee you, this will work.

Don't even try starting off needsize's ab routine with a 45 lb plate. Start with just your body weight, and add 5 lb plates and so on as you begin to feel ready.
