My primer for on getting started with HRT (I am a client of Chip and Maximus)

I got a lot of feedback regarding the primer and all were good, but consistently, the request was for it to be more consice and less wordy. I am rewriting it and will post it in it's entirity once I am done.

Bottom line to remember, start clean if possible, get labs drawn early AM, fasting, look at Thyroid levels too, control your E2 and get with someone, Chip or a real Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) doctor that listens. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is way more than testosterone shots. It is a major committment to your entire health. Please look at your entire body and health. This is about being healthy and living well.

I will repost the primer as soon as I get it rewritten.

Thanks....

Great post man, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

I just got my labs done yesterday and should be getting started real soon

Incredible posts... Sfjack.... This board will stand to gain an incredible amount of knowledge from your posts/log/journey/experience. We all thank you!!!

Great read so far!

At the least, and what will be most important to get started is tests for your Total and free testosterone and your Estradiol E2 levels. Once you have this in hand, you will have probably the most important information you will ever need to properly address Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for yourself.

You obviously, and rightfully so place great importance on these three levels. I'm considering having bloodwork done in the near future and was checking out the panel on the Maximus Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) website and was surprised that the panel ordered through them did not include free testosterone nor E2, only total testosterone and total estrogen. This left me a bit baffled. What are your thoughts on leaving these tests out?

For the most part you will know if your estrogen is high (itchy nips, possibly being emotional).

Free Testosterone is calculated using the Total Test. and SBGH numbers. SBGH is in the Maximus panel.

"Sometimes, a total testosterone and SHBG are ordered to help evaluate free androgens by calculating the Free Androgen Index (FAI). This equation gives doctors an idea of the quantity of testosterone that is not bound to SHBG and is calculated as follows: FAI=total testosterone / SHBG x 100." Thank you both for your replies, I figured something along those lines was the case.

How about E2, can that level be effectively determined by the total estrogen level?

AWESOME THREAD SFJACK! NEEDED SOME ONE TO THROW OUT A LOT OF THIS INFO!

RIGHT ON MAN!

GOT A Q ABOUT WHAT CLETUS PUT DOWN:

i am a bit confused about this equation, especially for me?:

total test 338/(shbg) 37 x 100= 913?? 913 of what? quantity of free test not being bound?

if so where does it go? confused on the number i got?

thanks

First off we don't know the normal range for this calculation.

Second you have to use the same units (ng/dl or whatever) for both values. You may need to convert one of the values.

ok yeah one is ng/dl while the other shbg is nmol/l
