Name that lift

OK, I was in the gym doing a lift and someone asked me what it was called, and I have no idea but they insisted there was a name for it and now its driving me crazy not knowing.

The lift is when you do regular bench press but you only go down half way and back up to consentrate on strengthening the shoulders and tris. I never heard a name for it, but this person says it has one (but they can't remember)...anyone know?

iv heard of reverse grip bench press and close grip, but i dont think either of those are what you mean

4/5 board press would do the trick, which is done with 1" thick boards.

When I do lockouts in a rack its only 3 or 4 inches of movement for the triceps.

JM presses. named after J M Blakely. world class bencher.

board presses are something entirely different.
also the boards we use are made out of 2x6s. so they are 1.5 inches thick. i have never seen anyone use 1" borads. at least not powerlifters.

Sounds like a partial rep. Meaning, part of a rep. Works on locking out because it may be you weak range of the motion....?

Maybe im wrong, but thats what I would call it.

Half of a rep is not a lockout. I think it is clear Pullinbig is in the right here.

gm i just told him what they were. do you ever read anything? lolololol

lockouts are different, shorter range of motion. jm presses are 2/3 of the total motion or close to that. usually done with a medium grip. pinkies on the rings. jm recommends doing 6-8 sets of three on these. to build explsive power in the tris. ease down and explode up. not something youy would do every week though cause of the trama to the shoulder area. couple times a month will be ok.

i was gonna go with a partial rep as well

pullinbigs the expert....

I have always called half a rep, a partial rep, or half a rep. The guy takes it off the rack, goes down only half way, and then back up....

Partial rep in my vocabulary.....But im no expert either.

Glad you mentioned that, I have been doing them about once a week to help correct the problems caused by long arms. It has been about two months since I started doing them regular and I have noticed considerable strength gains in my sticking point. I'm trying to build up my bench and deadlift right now. Any suggestions/links to good lifts/routines for that purpose (I am thinking of doing the 5x5)? Thanks

there are some workouts posted on here. 5x5 is one and i posted one in the deadlift sticky. page 6 i think. if you can tolerate higher volume 5x5 will work but if lower volume suits you better then the one i listed is OK too.

BTW i said 2 times per month, not 1 time per week lolololololol
