Need Help

Irredeemable

Hi. I'm 18 years old and for the last 6 months or so I've felt absolutely terrible. I'm sore all over, I can't focus, I feel weak, back pain, my libido is gone most of the time, and I'm mildly depressed. I was referred to an endo after getting these test results (which the urologist said were fine): Total Testosterone 278 ng/dL,
Estradiol 30 pg/mL, Prolactin 5.3 ng/mL, FSH 3.3 mIU/mL.

I saw the endo twice and he said I didn't have a testosterone problem and when I begged for another test he smirked and laughed at me. He sent me back to the GP who put me on Cymbalta for possible Fibromyalgia which I had a tremendous amount of side effects on. I don't know what's wrong with me, but from a lot of what I've read online it points to low T. Am I right or am I crazy? Thanks a lot.

278 is waaaay too low. I dont know how you can go on with your day with levels that low. You are not crazy, you do have low T and you definatley qualify for TRT. Get with maximus and get started on the right track. Best of luck to you!

Oh man. I am not a doctor. I would avoid anti depressants and stimulants they may throw at you. They make everything worse. They may take away your lows, but they will take away your highs aswell. They surely wont help with pain. Your doctor is sounds like a pedo. You need to talk to chip. i know what it feels like to be young and have no hope. You really need to talk to chip. do not ignore my advice. every minute counts. The door is unlocked, will you open it?

I submitted my health form to the Maximus site. I plan on talking to my GP and pleading with her to send me to a young, open minded endocrinologist. The only worry I have about Maximus is the cost of it. I don't know if my insurance covers it and I don't think I can afford it on my own. I just turned 18 in July which is when I just started really feeling the effects of my condition. I don't think I'd be able to hold a job in the condition I am to be able to pay for the treatment. I feel lost and trapped at this point because my last endocrinologist really screwed me over and I'm worried that if I go to another one they will do the same. I'm tired of wasting time and I really want my life to get back on track. I have hopes and dreams.

Maximus doesn't take insurance and if there is any question about being able to afford testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) don't get on it because if you had to stop because of finances 6 months to 2 yrs down the road you'd be in worse natural condition once off. 18 is so young I'd exaust all other options (much most testing) before going with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) anyway.

Drop your Dr. immediately, as he is an idiot that obviously doesn't understand hormones, nor is he listening to you. He works for you, remember that. Anti-depresants can make everything worse. Right now we have the same T level. I know exactly how you feel.

My mom is the one who takes me to all my appointments and she understands what I'm going through. dad isn't really in the picture. Going to try to be very stern with the GP next time I see her, but they always tell me my levels are normal and that if they "put me on testosterone" there will be bad side effects.

Educate your mom then. Find and print the charts for normal T levels. Then read the side effects of Cymbalta. Wiith all of them you are bound to have some side effects
webmd.com/drugs/drug-91491-Cymbalta+Oral.aspx?drugid=91491&drugname=Cymbalta+Oral&pagenumber=6

Unfortunately if you are still living with and so dependent on your parents the choice is really theirs IMO (sounds like very much the case if you are being driven to the dr by mom) so you'll need to educate your mom and see what happens if you want her / her insurance to pay for it. I'd get with a good endro and try methods like a restart etc and more tests before going with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) at your very young age.

You are just a kid. You are not a doctor. You have no education. You do not know anything. These are going to the thoughs of your GP. You will not win an argument with your doctor, it is a waste of time. You are very young, Maximus is over qualified to help you with a Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) RESTART. And a RESTART is very cheap.

My mom understands that I have low T. The only reason I tried the Cymbalta (which I no longer take) is because I was hoping that I was wrong when it came to this and maybe it would help me. But even that she now understands, what can she do to help me with a restart? And how much would that cost? Also, if someone could explain what an Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) restart is I'd be greatly appreciative.

What does that mean? "She understands you have low T" Did you print out the charts for her and the Dr.? If everybody understands, why are you here?

You can't win w/your Dr. that is a fact. It will just piss him off.

This just seems so simple to me. You need help, you need to change Dr.'s because the one you have has clearly demonstrated that he does not know, nor care, according to what you wrote. Either talk with Chip, or somebody else that does know. But you need help ASAP.

If your mother understands, then she will understand why you need a different Dr. But don't go to another appointment with the same Dr. expecting different results. It's not going to happen. FYI your T is so low that only 2.5% or so of 100 yr old men have that low of a number. Just some food for thought.

This should be so simple. Just call Chip and talk to him. It is that easy. There are solutions for young people like you.

I've stopped seeing the endocrinologist and went back to the GP in hopes of being able to see a different one.

From my knowledge you have to get a referral to see a specialist so the insurance covers it. I understand that I can't argue with the doctor, I really didn't. I just suggested that he should maybe test me again and rethink his conclusion. This is also the same guy that had me tested for Marfans because I'm double jointed in my fingers.

The only people who don't seem to understand are the doctors I've seen. I saw a urologist who said my levels were fine, as well as his friend (the endo) that said they were fine as well. I've seen the chart that shows that I'm comparable to a 100 year old man. I thought that the endocrinologist who's specialty is hormones would realize that. Instead he told me my levels are completely fine. I came here to get some advice on what to do and how to get help outside of my medical group which seems to keep screwing me over. Sorry for being unclear. Or maybe I just don't understand. My brain doesn't work as good as it used to it seems.

If I was dr I'd be treading carefully regarding giving a script for a sch3 drug to a kid also (18 and living with mom is a child). You can't blame the Dr for wanting more then one visit and more then one blood test and then a referal to a specialist (endro) would be the smart way to go about it. You don't get one low test and jump on a lifetime of t injections at 18. You get multiple tests on different days for a multitude of possible causes, then see a specialist with those tests in hand (or maybe he orders them). That specialist might chose a number of things depending on what his opinion of cause is. In fact I'd see more then one specialist even (Esp if you can't get a good solution from the prior one or 2). Be that with a local endro or a online tella dr though someone like chip.

Getting him to retest and for a larger range of items is a great idea. Follow though with that.
