How do I increase Protein intake cheaply? I live in Thailand and protein shakes and other supplements cost a fortune and beyond my spending capacity! Milk, eggs, chicken breats, fish, tuna are more affordable and despite eating tons of it, I have not seen much growth! I also do not eat beef (as a religious compulsion)...any suggestions??!

FYI...the typical Thai diet is rich in carbs - especially from rice and vegetables

Thanks

Drink lots of whole milk especially if you are not lactose intolerant. Also eat more often, try to have one meal seem to flow into the next. I have found that having hard boiled eggs on hand, as well as lots of pre-prepared meals readily available, have helped me to put on a lot of size. If you can keep up with the constant eating you should be able to put on some mass. Keep your diet interesting, otherwise bulking up can become a chore, make it a pleasure to eat for growth and you will have more success.

Sorry for ignornace...whats the difference between whole milk and regular milk?? Are you talking about pasteurized and non-pasteurized milk?

In the US there are three different types of milk available in most stores, whole milk has a higher cream content, then 2% and then skim which looks like grey water. All milk sold in the US is usually pasteurized.

cottage cheese and cans of tuna are both cheep and LOADED with protien.. try them

Isn't peanut butter, high in fat content??

LOADED with fat ,, stay away from the peanut butter... chicken isn't all that expensive, frozen pre-pattied burgers, and like i said,, cottage cheese and tuna are great sources as well. try those.

Y are u telling him to stay away from peanut butter if he's trying to build muscle??? yeah, it has some fat in it but its from nuts(get natural peanut butter its better for u) U need some fat in your diet bro. Just don't live off peanut butter. I usually have one pb sandwich every day. I'm at about 11% bf, so it hasn't killed me yet. Eat eggs, fish, chicken, lean cuts beef, cottage cheese, milk, turkey, etc. U'll get your protein in. Just eat eat eat. Don't forget the leafy green vegi's either.

OH, with the milk. WOrk up to a gallon or so a day. It'll really help put size on u. When i'm bulking i usually go thru a gallon every day give or take a little. :)
I go thru alot of eggs to, real cheap source of protein. Same as tuna.

I also consume quite a bit of natural peanut butter and I'm under 10%. Yes it contains fat but it is healthy fat.

I don't drink whole milk, but I go through about 3 gallons of nonfat every week. In addition to having it with shakes, I have a glass with almost every meal.

Beyond that, all I can suggest is to consume more of the protein sources you are using.

Whoa, GOTTA have the natty pb in your bulking plan. Would stay away from the frozen burgers - high sodium compared to what you can do with other meats and since you said you don't eat beef, no worries. Lean pork, soy, all kinds of sources. Def get on the milk, hard boiled eggs are great, I eat a dozen at a time with about three of 'em bing whole. Not sure what all you have access to but almonds, avocados, olive oil, all those fats should also be included. Not necessarily protein but going just going the protein route won't pack on a lot of mass, you needs kcals bro.

how do you prepare your tuna so it dont taste like shit???
The way I do it is what most Thai's do with their Tuna. To keep it away from fat, you squeeze lime into it, add a pinch of salt and some red chilli. Trust me, it tastes a lot better and is ALOT easier to swallow.

Have you figured out how much protein you are eating each day?
With the food that I eat...it is hard to calculate. I normally eat food that is pre-cooked at hawker centers so I don't know how much chicken (for example), is going into it. However, I do insist that they use only the chicken breast. I drink about 1 litre of non-fat milk a day, about 4 egg whites and 2 whole eggs (that's a total of 6 egg whites), 1 can of tuna, white and brown rice, oatmeal, occasional yogurt, occasional helping of regular cheese. What is an easy way to figure out how much protein that is???

I weigh about 192 lbs and with about 13% body fat. Any meal suggestions from what I have listed above?

Thanks

Hey vpawa, do you mean in terms of where to get it, how to prepare it, or...? Lean white pork during a bulking phase really helps up the kcals and it's pretty easy to get here, though that may not be the case everywhere obviously. I usually go to a true butcher shop and not the Kroger meat section, lol.

No tensity...I was wondering how good is it as a source of protein!! I have heard of chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, etc being a good source of protein...but never thought that pork would be a good source! That's what I wanted to hear about!

I love pork but cut it out of my diet, thinking that it is too fattening(??!)...well atleast that's what I hear all the time!
