as the title states im new and just started back lifting after years of allowing myself to become morbidly obese! I got up to 472lbs and almost immobile before I had enough and decided to kill the fat bastard that had taken over my life! I began in December 2014 at 472 and as of yesterday I am down to 262! I have lost lots of strength along the way but it appears to be coming back pretty fast. I was diagnosed with hypogonadism and got on trt with a company but just switched over to IMT last week. I will update my journey along the way but here is a couple of pictures so far!View attachment 563644 this was just before I started at 472lbs! im 6'6" as well..

Man, that's awesome. Good job. You are really committed and you have made great progress. You should be proud!

It started as a depression diet. my mother passed away from obesity related congestive heart failure in November 2014. my son came to me ans said he was afraid I was next and he did not want to lose me. I struggled for about 3 weeks grieving in which I hardly ate anything at all. I saw a dietitian and he had me do a journal of what I was eating prior to her passing and currently. I was eating no less than 9500 calories a day and not active at all. I had enough dealing with ankle pain, knee pains and sleeping with that damn cpap machine so I backed down to 2000 calories and started swimming twice a day, then walking and swimming and just did more and more as I felt I could. I could barely walk 1/4 mile in the beginning. as the weight came off I started light jogging and elliptical machine or stationary bike. just all cardio for 9 months! then I did minor weight lifting along with my cardio and decreased calories to 1500 a day. I had days I was hungry and days I was fine. I just refused to give in and let my son down! now im eating more but all clean. no fast food at all in over a year. no fried either and that is hard being I live in new Orleans! I just started viewing food as fuel and ate to live instead of lived to eat and tastes! it was a hard road, and I got off track a few times but never gave up and now im here today healty as I have ever been..

i should add i was on blood pressure meds for hypertension, which caused me to have mild erectile dysfunction. with hypertension, i wasn't allowed to take any type of fat burner supplement. whey protein was my best friend for a long time! i am no longer taking any meds for hypertension because its gone! blood pressure is now perfectly normal! im on trt which is test c, hcg and anastrozzle which has really made me feel great and restored my wood as well! lol

Welcome!

As someone that went from 500 to 280, and back up to 325 (different composition), I totally know your struggle and journey (I'm 6'7"). Now it's time to fill in that frame! :)

yes it is! I started back lifting recently. of all the strength I lost, I have been doing decent. I am surely going to keep on killing it! I set that goal and accomplished it so I have set new goals and gunning for them! Ive always loved bodybuilding just never applied it to myself for some dumbass reason! always wanted to go to Columbus for the Arnold, never went, until this year! cant wait!

Every person needs something or someone to help them do what they need to do in life, I think Lord Byron said that in a quote. Its great that your kid can motivate you and that he can see the changes in you brother! Its a great example to him that nothing is impossible and he will be all the better for it. Good on you!

my son is 17 and plays football in high school. he is a tremendous athlete and in great shape because the school he attends has a program that is relentless. we have won 26 state championships and national champions in 2012. I was a 4 star player in 1992 and had several college offers. my son is trying hard to top my playing stats lol. he and I are best friends so I was tired of letting him down. I know his friends told him mean things about me but he never cared or let it bother him until we lost my mother. that was the end of everything! now we run together and I am actually lifting with the team at school and they all have been impressed with my transformation and push the crap out of me to work harder! life is good! im blessed!

halfwit, when you went back up in weight from lifting, how did you incorporate your diet to add mass without the worry of gaining fat? im eating real clean, so I just started eating more whole food, mainly protein but I get scared I will get fat again! I guess from being fat for so long this is normal to feel that way? thanks!

you mentioned fiber drinks earlier, man, those are the bomb, orange flavor is my fav, stay with that for sure, the more fiber the better, and coconut oil shots during the day will do wonders to get rid of more excess fat. Drink water like its going out of style too, this will be a great example to the kids watching you as they are all mostly saturated with artificial drinks, foods etc.

coconut oil shots? I do use a little coconut oil to scramble eggs for breakfast just never heard of shots. I do love my fiber drinks, orange is also a personal favorite! I could start drinking more water though. I probably don't get enough in daily..

The first year or so is a serious mental battle. I tried very hard to bulk while eating as a rabbit, and while *some* results did happen, I did have to seriously rethink my strategy.

I have a TDEE of about 4200 cals, and aim for around 5k when I start a real bulk. I then do slowly increase them until I start noticing that fat is (I get second and third opinions on this) accumulating, and back down a hair. I finished my last bulk at around 7400 cals, and had some very good results. Of course, there's a HUGE difference when those calories come from better sources than the pizza and fast food I used to crave while hypogonadal. I do still indulge on occasion, but I make sure that it's not a common occurrence.

Unfortunately, I do have body dysmorphia (the vast majority of folks that go through such transformations do), and sometimes I see a fat guy in the mirror, while other times I stare in awe with what I've accomplished.

I do STRONGLY recommend that you avoid the scale while bulking. It will not tell you anything significant, and really make you doubt yourself. I have a spot above my hip that I use to judge my body fat accumulation with a measuring tape - that keeps it simple enough (I ask the wife and a few close friends too) and gives me a number to work with.

The journey back up in weight is scary at first, but once you accept the fact that you're INVESTING in keeping it off (more lean mass = higher resting metabolism), a couple extra pounds are a small price to pay. :)

thank you! I have the body dysmorphia issue. I am amazed at what I have accomplished so far though. I did get on the scale at first and had gained 3 lbs so I got upset because it was for so long the emphasis was on losing I thought I was relapsing. I eat entirely clean now. diet is always on point now. im eating more as I lift and I am seeing some results in mainly strength but vascularity is coming back like when I was young and some muscle gains. im going to try adding more whole food calories and protein as I increase my lifting. I must say that I am loving this part of the journey a lot and this forum is a big part of that! so to all here a huge thank you!

Do shots, or drink an ounce and a half then, add it to a shake, drink it straight from the bottle, etc. DO NOT COOK WITH IT if you want to get the most of the fat burning powers. The MCT oil in coconuts is an awesome and powerful fat burner and will do wonders for you trust me.

Just like the fat loss, the muscle gain is all about consistency. I started my journey walking into the "fitness center" at our development's clubhouse. I came to tears on more than one occasion as I just couldn't move that bar with less weight than many women can press.

I wanted to give up.

I recently put up 505 for 3 reps (I try not to max), and the feeling of knowing that I didn't quit, enabling me to push through just gives an inner peace I'm sure you'll experience. :)

Oh, make sure protein gets the most attention. We bigger fellas require quite a lot, which is daunting at first. :)

thanks guys! I will incorporate the coconut oil in and not cook with it and see how that goes. the high protein is tough to get in but its becoming easier as I go. awesome on the 505x3 bro! im not even close to that but I WILL NOT quit myself again no matter when I am! I do look forward to that feeling of inner peace! Im totally grateful for how far I have come, but remain focused on where I am heading!

thanks milton for that awesome coconut oil trick. See thats what is so awesome about these forums. The more you cruise around and read the more u learn. Love it
