No Herbs or Spices allowed??

My coach has said not to use any herbs or spices, and to keep my food completely plain. I'm 10 weeks out.

Is there any reason why? I'll be honest I have used spices a few times, as it's just so hard to eat the meals completely plain, but I've not used any salt or anything with sugar.

Hopefully this week he'll let me start using them, as I've been dieting now for 2 weeks.

Please give your thoughts on this.

HELP! Coach won't allow spices? !!!!!

I'm 10 weeks out, ive been dieting for 2 weeks. Firstly my coach said keep all my food completely plain for the first 2 weeks. Ive tried but have put spices on my chicken a couple of times, it's too hard to eat completely plain.
I asked him now that I've been dieting 2 weeks, and he's said "we'll talk about it" I don't think he'll allow me spices..

What should I do? I honestly don't understand why.. If he doesn't let me, should I go ahead and use spices secretly? I don't want to go against my coach, but every other competitor uses spices?
HELP!

As long as it doesn't contain sodium or a source of calories - I don't see why the restriction is there. Spices and some condiments help that bland food go down during a cut, so I'd be really interested in hearing why they would be restricted.

I've never heard of mustard/pepper/lemon/thyme/etc being a nono myself.

He's foreign & kinda intimidating, but he just said "let's keep everything really plain the first 2 weeks"
I feel BAD for using spices, even though I've checked and made sure there's no salt or sugar. I feel like I'm going behind his back by using them sometimes.

Everyone who has won the competitions here in my country has been coached by him, so I don't want to contradict him or act like I know more than him.. So I'm afraid to ask why

maybe he is just thinking you can't be trusted with deciding what is a good spice and what isn't? ;) I don't see any problem with using fresh squeezed lemons and 0cal 0carb spices... maybe some of the resident coaches will chime in.

have you asked your coach? If I don't get the reasoning behind something I will ALWAYS ask... It is your right to know the reason behind the instruction if you are paying them good money for it IMO.

First of all, don't feel bad.
Its completely normal to be sceptical about some of the things coaches ask you to do - especially if this is your first coach/prep. And honestly, his request makes no sense to me at all :)

Good coaches have no issues with answering questions from clients about their methods; its part of the job and I guarantee your not the first client he's had that thinks this is a weird request.
You should definitely ask him why but just make it sound like your interested in learning about these things, educating yourself for the future, etc, etc.

If your not satisfied with his answer, then don't contradict him or whatever - just remember the next time your looking to hire a coach.

Share a pic and let us see what you got to work with. And what country are you in?
This looks like a post for 3J's expert advice.

So if he says don't use spice I should just listen to him and do it?

What if he gives a bioscience answer? I've a feeling it's going to be to do with digestion, like the spices make it harder for you body to digest the food?

spices are FINE! its one of only way to add flavor without adding cals or much cals!!! it can actually help fatloss and definition depending on spices you are using. to me its asinine that he would say that. sounds liek he has his head up his a$$ to me, no offence...

ginger enhances it. just research your top spices you like. IMO

I guarantee that he will give a broscience answer ;)

I cant tell you to listen/not listen to him...your the one paying him.
On the one hand, why hire someone to coach you if your not going to listen? On the other hand, getting rid of the spices will make it harder for you to stick to the diet and this will cause more harm to your prep than anything else.

I would personally ignore him, but again...I'm not the one paying the dude.

No spices?! That sounds odd to me, it also sounds terrible trying to get prep food down that is plain, lol. Gross!!

Like Zilla said, ask questions. And by doing this you will understand WHY you are doing certain things, not just doing them. This will make your prep better IMO and youll have a better understanding of whats going on and youll build a better teacher/student relationship.

Report back on the questions you ask and the answers he gives.

Why do you need a picture...!! This post is nothing to do with my physique. :/

Your post has everything to do with your physique. you claim that all the top people in your country have been trained by him so I want to see why this NO SPICE diet is so triumphant. and you did not answer my question, what country are you from?

the spices actually enhance the food property values so you get more for your buck. So they DO NOT make it harder for your body to digest foods, its opposite, it makes it easier for your body to digest foods.
